My company finally came up with a cool knife to give away to customers! We always gave away those ones you can buy at a gas station for 50 cents. The only difference between our giveaways and the gas station ones were that we had Timken etched on them.

The only draw back to this new giveaway is that it was made in China. Other than that it seems to be a nice liner lock with a belt clip and a camo finish. It also has a double thumb stud, but the belt clip isn't reversible. My customers will love getting these! I'll be a hit.

The blade length is 3-1/4" and the overall length is 7-7/8". The blade clip is a false edge. It's also scary sharp. I'm going to use it as my EDC for a while and see how well it holds an edge and how easily the edge can be brought back on it.

I don't have any idea what the blade steel is. It only has three things etched on it. DAKOTA, stainless and China.

INCONCEIVABLE !. The largest bearing mfg. in the USA and the give away a knife NOT made from 52100 and made in China. "I am depressed" This deserves a letter to Tim Timken.

that is a pretty cool giveaway item! sure beats the hell out of cups and golf balls with the company logo on them!

Scott, get one take it apart, replace the blade with one of damascus and the scales with some of that mastodon ivory you got and make your bosses slobber.

Well. Let's stop and think about this a little bit first.

#1...80% of Timken bearings ARE NOT made of 52100. Prior to 2002, nearly 100% were not made of 52100.
#2...The steel for the knife is a stainless. Timken makes very litte, if any stainless steel, since bearings are not made of stainless, except on very rare occasions. Giving away a 52100 knife that would rust, would not leave a very good image in the customers mind.
#3...If Timken purchased the knife from an American Manufacturer, the steel would be coming from one of our competitors, so by purchasing knives from overseas, we are not aiding our competition.
#4...Timken now has 3 bearing plants in China.
#5...Timken also has exclusive contracts with Chinese steel manufacturers to make steel for them, using nearly all of their capacity for our Chinese bearing plants.

Did I defend us well enough?

Oh, by the way, we also give away camoflauged minimag flashlights that are made in the U.S.

We don't buy our giveaways directly, but have a contract with a company that supplies ALL of our giveaways. It's impossible to find a gift supply company that doesn't deal with chinese product. This time, it just happened to be a knife and not the minimag.

I think the blade would be 3Cr13, ib2v4u is right, its nice but it needs an overhaul, even a blade from one of those 52100 rollers would be nice.

Well, that is a cool idea....but....I haven't done that in years. That would actually be like going backwards in my knifemaking evolution. I do only soul authorship now, unless I'm collaborating with another maker. I haven't done a rehandle of a factory knife for over 15 years. I haven't done a kit knife in over 15 years either.

I'd prefer to make a knife like it from scratch, if I were to want one like that.
