I didn't think a pinned case shield was this durable.

Well, I have to say that is certainly a testimony to why the shields should be pinned. If that hasn't fallen off by now, it will probably outlast the rest of the knife!

Well, I´m impressed by this shield and the whole construction in general. There are two tiny pins that keep that shield in position. The rest of the handle (propably it was bone) fell off after some use and this shield is still there. That´s a solid construction. If the shield would have been clued, I think the shield would have been fallen off out of the handle before the (bone, wood) material said goodbye...

That´s a great pic. Thanks for sharing :)

That knife still has lots of life left in it. I'd send that to one of the several knife service providers we have here and get new covers put on it, clean it up a bit and it will be a fine user. It's not really in bad shape other than the cover is gone. What about the other side cover?

Very cool picture-- thanks!

... The old shields are a little different from the more modern pop-o-matics, yes?

Looks like the shield pins have been peened after the scales left town, is the shield tight to the liners or closer than the scales would have allowed?
