I was as thrilled as the rest with the beauties in the BBoB at the recent MWKK...but bought a 12" AK by mistake. Yup...seemed like I had a case of buyer's remorse. I had that size range covered by a few other blades, I didn't want another horn in that size, it really didn't feel right in my hand, in other words, we didn't bond.
What to do about it? I thought of several choices, but none of them felt right...and was about to toss it into the back of a drawer.
Well, yesterday I went to a state meeting for my Club and at the last moment (as I was walking out the door), grabbed it and touched up the blade before I left (it came up quickly and beautifully). When I arrived, I just jammed it in a back pocket without any plan for it. Several Brothers asked about it, wanted a price, but for some reason told them it wasn't for sale (although I could have made a few bucks on it).
As others arrived and I greeted them, nothing happened until a Brother named "Fx" showed up. Fx had done me a favor a couple of weeks ago (he lives near my Mom and had stopped by her house one day to tighten a leaking toilet, about a 5 minute job). The AK almost jumped into my hand and there I was, offering it to him as a thanks for being a true Brother.
He was speachless...almost refusing to accept such a gift for doing so little. He immediately put it on and throughout the day, kept fondling the handle and bonding with it.
*Now* I know why I bought *that* knife.
Thank you Uncle Bill.
