I dislike FRN and lockbacks...but

...the Delica is the only knife I enjoy carrying and using. Weird, right? I sold off my meager collection of users, several Benchmade and one Manix due to lack of use.

It's all SAK and Spyderco for the foreseeable future.

I will admit my previously disliked PM2 now sees a lot of use. Glad I didn't trade it. I like it so much I got the closest thing I could imagine a mix between the Delica and the PM2 could be - my Stretch should be here next week.

I carry a superblue delica at work, razor sharp, great knife. And a sak mechanic as well. My taste for knives change like the seasons, who knows what's next?

I use a Grip for work that was issued to me, and I love the axis. It's just that everything else I use a knife for, I end up grabbing my Delica. I abuse it, I use it for nearly everything, and I think that has to do with the price, the size, and the fit. For me, it works. It isn't a 'grail' knife (not really something I'm seeking), it's just that it stays out of my way for the 99% of my day that I don't have it in my hand and work wonderfully for the 1% of the time that I do.

I would love to see a compression lock FRN the size of the Delica, as the only thing that really bothers me (and even this, hardly at all) is the 'Seki Pop' that comes with the lock back. I minor issue, but one that I think a compression lock would take care of nicely.

What the heck is "Seki Pop"?

It's that little bit of give that you can feel along the spine of the lock back when you cut with knife. I don't know who named it that, read it either here or on the Spyderco forums. From what I understand, it's normal.

I think it was Sal himself who referred to it as the Seki Pop. It gives me the heebie geebies..

Seki Pop. ..

I had one of the older ZDP Delicas. Sold it a couple of years ago, because I prefer FFG blades. Now I find I really miss it. I like the way they carry, so light and compact you can't feel it it in your pocket. I'll probably have to get an FFG Delica one of these days.

I would also like to get a FFG one at some stage. I have the saber ground version of the Delica 4. And the Delica 3 with the ATS 55 saber grind. I really like the Delica 3 with its sharp point but yeah, the version 4 is very nice with its skeletonised liners, it just feels sturdier.

Seki pop: that's the vertical play that the Delica and other lock backs can exhibit. When I push down hard on my Delica 4 when cutting on a flat surface I can feel a bit of give between the tang and the lock, the lock seems to ride up against the blade. The expression "Seki pop" I'm sure it was Sal himself who referred to it as that, I actually looked for the quote but couldn't find it.

For interests sake here's an article where Sal talks about the challenge of making a movement free lockback :

I love natives especially my 4.

I need to try a Native. It has been on my radar for three years now, but I always seem to pick up something else. I'm also interested in this new Native coming out. Maybe I'll give that a shot before I pick up the 5.
