I need a quick review on the difference in tang stamps of the U.S. made Old Timer
and Uncle Henry Schrades, from the new "off shore" products made now.

My Old Timer has the following on the tang
SCHRADE
U.S.A. 1940T

I bought it over 20 yrs. ago and know it is from the Schrade factory.

What is SCHRADE + ?

Thanks in advance for your patience

Ray:

Your knife, minus a + sign following the SCHRADE, indicates 1095 carbon steel. Prior to 2004, the SCHRADE+ was designation for stainless steel. The new Taylor made in China knives just say SCHRADE (no USA) and are stainless steel.

No need to apologize, almost every SCHRADE person has asked this question at some point.

That single blade linerlock knife is a dandy, huh?

Thanks for the reply Thawk.
I was just going to edit my post after wading through the FAQ link where I found some info. I see the " + " is stainless steel, and the USA indicates the Schrade factory (with some contract exceptions, apparently)

And yes, the single blade linerlock has been a favorite knife of mine for years, it has aged beautifully and has a sharp edge with little work.
That knife is a candidate for the question " If you could only have one pocket knife what ...........?

It is a favorite of mine too. I have it with quite a variety of handle materiala.

Hal, if those 'others' are stainless steel put one in your fishing box and look at it after 4 weeks exposed to sea air as I did on my boat...and yes there were other USA Schrades in there as well suffering no ill effects...I almost posted photos of the knife <I think it was still a knife it was hard to tell apart from the handle> on here, but we agreed at the time not to discuss them....yes I know....what am I now doing??.....but I did mention USA Schrades............Hoo Roo...

Hey Larry, you know what they say, "stainless does not mean stainproof". Albeit, even that is a stretch when it comes to particular cutlery of said origin.
