I'm open for suggestions. I'd liek a knife with a blade between 2.5 and 2.75". I have some that are 2.25 and they are a TOUCH to short. 3" is okay, but I'd like something in the 2.75" range bacae I think it would be perfect...

Under 60 bucks would be nice, assisted open preferred (or auto)

Currently the market is pushing 3-4" blades as that's what is selling, at least in tactical or tool box knives.

2 3/4" runs in the slip joint and gentlemens' dress knife category. That's been a general condition of the market for decades, which indicates how the general public has seen it - it's not big seller as far as working knife size, but as a small pocket carry, it does the job quite well.

As for AO, probably not any that small, as an auto, most of the California switchblades are smaller - 2", leaving very little in the next size.

There may be so few in 2 3/4" that a display collection at a knife show would be interesting.

CRK Mnandi has a 2 and 3/4" blade. The Spyderco Calypso, Jr.'s blade is close.

2.5-2.75" assisted folders
Buck Catapult
Buck Rush
Camillus Sizzler
CRKT Ichi
Gerber Vallotton
SOG Flash 1

the Leatherman assisted folders are listed on knifecenter with 2.8" blades

assisted openers between 2 & 2.5 "
CRKT Van Hoy On Fire

Kershaw Baby Boa
Kershaw mini Mojo

I don't think any of the knives I listed are over $60 online.

One of my favorite knives is the Benchmade 770, which is right around 2 2/4" - it's nominally 2.80", which is a few thousandths of and inch over. :)

While it's not in your $60 range, if that's your favorite size, keep the 770 in mind for when you want to spend a little more on a first class knife. It's a great gent's knife, and came in enough versions - carbon fiber, G10, different colors of Aluminum, 154CM, D2 - to please a range of tastes.

The bad thing is it's out of production, and only going to get more expensive. But there are still enough of them around that they can be picked up for reasonable prices, which probably won't be true in a couple years.

I'd also look at AG Russell - he has had a number of folders in that size over the years. Some were quite expensive, but some were very modestly priced.

Meanwhile Benchmade's 'NRA Knives' line has a couple of folders with 2.72" and 2.80" inch blades. The 12410 retails for $80 (so it streets under $60) and the new ones are in D2 tool steel; the 12750 is a whittler-ish three blade folder with a locking 440C main blade and no clip, and full retail is $55, so it runs around $40 online. They're both mini versions of Ken Steigerwalt designs. I own both, and while they aren't as incredible as the 770, they are solid, well built little knives. The 12410 is a great drop-point cutter, full flat ground; the 12750 is a bit thick edged but has one of the stoutest spines I've ever seen on a traditional-ish multiblade folder, it looks damn near an eighth of an inch (it's a nominal 0.100"). Its second blade is a very thin edged semi-skinner, and the third is bottle opening screwdriver. Sort of a low featured Taiwanese Benchmade SAK. :D

The Camillus Sizzle is a great knife. Very fast AO and very sharp AUS-8. Blade length is also very good for the length of the handle (closed length). I'd highly recommend the Sizzle. It is available through knifeoutlet.com under the Ontario brand.

Well, if there is any way to find out how wrong your perception may be, just post it on the internet.

Obviously a lot of stuff out there for those who look. As usual, multiple informed responses with real information.

I was going to comment on the 2 3/4" size choice, but I knew I'd get flamed with "It's not the size of the tool, it's how it's used!" , etc. I'll leave that alone, as I may wake up to all my 2 3/4" blades dancing on the bed covers preparing me for sacrifice.

"The Revolt of the Knives!," a new Pixar release! An evil eyed thumbhole knife hopping in to the "i" in Pixar would be the first hint in the intro . . .
