I admit...there's alot out there that I haven't seen or tried. I'll be the first one to tell you that sometimes I look at something and if it doesn't make me get that silly ass grin, you know the one that makes our wives shake their heads and mutter "Boys!", well if I don't get that "grin" when I look at a knife chances are I won't even give it another look let alone a try. Yeah, I'm narrow minded that way.

So....that's how it's always been when somebody brings up Mayo folders. I look...I frown (no grin)...and I move on. Well lately (not sure why) I've been hearing more and more about them...so what gives??? I mean they just don't seem to be much to them. Is it the simplicity that people find so appealing? Or is the action just something that has to be experienced to appreciate. I mean check it....EDC.com just sold one for $1120.00 (Dr Death???). I'm telling you guys....I look at it and I don't see no Death, I don't see ultra cool...and I sure as hell don't see paying over a grand for it. Ti slabs and 154cm??? HUH???

Help me out....somebody school me out of my Classic Sebbie. LOL, I double dog darn ya!:p

Well... I like my "freakingazzsharp" Mayo damascus Dr. Death... But then again, I didn't pay $1120 for it! :D

We're all different and that's a good thing:D else we'd all be after the same knives.

I've the same thing with the oldschool Busse's. I'd love to try some but can't bring myself paying topdollar for one. That has to do with don't getting the "grin" kind of thing when I see them.

Seeing good pics and reviews of them has it's effect on me though, so anybody will send me an Off Duty, SJLE or BBSHSH???? I promiss I'll post good pics of them and maybe all will change:D

I wouldn't go more than $700. for a folder...But I just dropped $650. for a WT #2!!! :)

Tom Mayo's knives are very well designed and executed and he's very open to trying materials which will offer some aspect of performance craved by his customers (his famous TnT is named after its Talonite blade and titanium scales). His production knives with Buck put his designs into the hands of enthusiasts who can't afford his customs, but still want to experience his vision of cutting tools.

Why bring all of this up in the Busse forum?

True. "Off-Topic" shouldn't be an excuse for bringing discussions here that have better forums designed for them. In this case, General Knife Discussion or even Custom & Handmade Knives.

In Tom Mayo's case, his knives are excellent in themselves, and the maker is iconic for his innovations in materials and design, as thombrogan said. Just because these are commonplace now shouldn't blind us to his role in making them so.

It's because of Mayo's personality ;)

Maybe this thread is here to compare his folders to the Busse folder?

Folder Death-chat???

Hopefully.

Everyone, hold off for a Busse folder. Especially hold off on buying the black crinkle SFNO with tigerhide mag scales to save up for that folder. If an innovator like Mayo has a high price tag on his folders, an innovator like Jerry must, too, so save, save, save.

You mean "wait, wait, wait"
While Jerry "laughs, laughs, laughs"...

I have not seen the knives being talked about here, for me I will drop over $400.00 for 17.5 inches of NMFBM INFI or $170.00 for a Spyderco CF BG-42 Millie but thats about as far as it goes for me.

No, I mean save, hold off on buying semi-vintage INFI, and wait. The folder could be on its way. Really. And if not, just fight over the NMFBM's and tan-handled CGSJTACs and Jackhammers, please?

We frequently go Off Topic here. It's one of the things that make this a good forum, we can talk as friends about topics other than just Busse knives. So just maybe Solstice wanted to hear from his Busse bros what they think of Mayo's, and not get lost in the swamp of the General Knife Discussion.

exactly, when I have a question I dont just ask a person on the street.

I ask someone I know or have confidence in to give me sound advice.

I have many production folders and often wonder about the quality and feel of a custom. Also I love this forum and it is the first place and often the only place I come to at BF but I do like other knives it is just I like Busse knives the best. And I think that the people here have opinions that I would like to hear so I am glad we can talk about Busse and also "off topic" things as well. I think the Mayo folders are very well designed but I personaly wouldnt shell out the cash for one but that is just me. If i was going to spend that much money I would probably go for a J.L. Williams folder.
All the best and good topic.

Very well put RG. I was hoping to hear from some folks who own one as to why all the excitement. And I like hearing from familiar faces.....so to speak.
