I dont have a knife sharpener, so how can i sharpen my knives?

Umm...buy one? ;)

More seriously, you can strop your knife on things such as a leather belt, cardboard, or the back of a legal pad. Ultimately, stropping isn't a replacement for sharpening if you use the knife a lot, but it will help in maintaining a sharp edge for longer than would be possible without stropping.

im a bit low on money right now. im only in high school. i have like 10 bucks right now but im gonna save up for the spyderco knife sharpener. but until then, i need to find a way to sharpen my knives

Emory boards

Sandpaper

Leather loaded with compound

Find someone who has a sharpening stone and borrow it (any man over the age of 55 likely has one laying around in their garage or workshop)

Haha, I added some more constructive advice as you were replying. :)

second stropping on a leather belt good for touch ups and second sandpaper fine grit for car detail is good go to any store with an auto center and look around good luck!

check goodwill or salvation army store for a sharpening stone for cheap?
hit a hardware store and buy a medium arkansas stone or a low end diamond steel.

Pay someone to do it, local cutlery shops around here charge $5 per folder. You can sharpen your knife and then go to Mc D's and get yourself a double cheeseburger, small fries, and a sweet tea and still have a dollar and some change in your pocket.

I've heard of people using the base of ceramic mugs to sharpen. Not sure how viable it is though, as I've never tried it.

buy some sand paper with the 10 bucks you got. that or get a job and then buy a sharpener. Your dad doesnt have a belt grinder or bench grinder?

P.S. you seriously only have 10 bucks right now? and your in high school? how do you take girls out on dates? movies ticket=8-16 bucks each, popcorn=6 bucks, softdrink=3-5 bucks, candy=too much $$$, gas to get to the theathers=4 bucks a gallon. And your in Cali too which means increasing the price of everything!!!

get some 3m wetordry sandpaper and a piece of glass. wet the paper down and it will stick to the glass. keep it wet as you sharpen your knife. i would only go to about 400 grit.

I've tried it. Definitely works in the a fix to give you a workable edge but it doesn't produce a very good edge. A $2 sharpening stone from the local hardware store will give better results.

Home depot, Norton economy stone-$5
Local auto parts store, 3M wet/dry sandpaper multi-pack from 220-1000 <$5
Flea markets/trade shows/garage sales

You can also strop on some photo printer paper. Depending on the blade, a file can do it as well.
