There are a lot ot maker's wares in and out of my shop, but his is one I have not heard of, but his work is really good.

Edward Kalfayan of Michigan made the knife pictured in June of 1994. It is an 8" blade of 01, with 1020 cold rolled steel furniture, hardened to Rockwell 58-60. Handle is Spalted Birch Burl and the guard and blade are file worked, then the metal got and is sporting a flawless, beautiful black oxide finish. It is like a black mirror and the photo doesn't even come close to showing the beauty of the finish. Hollow ground and sharp as a razor.

Any one know or know of this maker??

I believe Ed has been making knives for years, and he is now retired, or semi retired. I think I heard he worked for GM, in Detroit.. He makes mostly fixed blades, but also does a nice folding dagger. I own a few of his knives, and I always wondered why he wasn't more well known. The persian subhilt of his I have has a beautiful grind, and excellent mirror/satin finish.. His knives are being sold today at pretty reasonable prices, by both collectors and dealers. If you would like to see a few photo's of mine, let me know and I will be glad to send them.. Best, Rich

Thanks for posting this your sheath work as always looks excellent. Would also like to see more of his work.

Ed used to work for Cadillac in Michigan. Nice solid knives. I believe he is retired now.

I had seen quite a few of Ed's knives a few years back at shows in the northeast, and Sandman3 used to sell them regularly on ebay.

They were always VERY well made and stylish. I also heard he is retired, but I think he still makes knives occasionally.

Saw his work, more than once, in Blade® 8-10 years ago.
He's got style :)

Ed is a really good maker and a heck of a guy! I havn't seen him at shows much lately (the last year or so). He might be semi retired from Knives. He has been retired from G.M. for a while now. He has always made very nice knives, a lot of very fine mirror polished stainless.
