I don't know why I did it...

I don't like pocket tanks. They're big, heavy and bulky which I find makes 'em uncomfortable to carry. I find that they typically don't cut as well as blades with thinner stock and I have no use for 'tactical' knives. I like my traditionals and slipjoints and mostly gravitate to gentleman's folders. I haven't even wanted to own any other one-handers since a few January purchases. So why, oh why, did I do it? I just placed an order for a knife that seems the very antithesis of my needs and wants... and yet I'm excited to get it! I could have used the cash to buy a Moki that I've been drooling over since forever (Serapis MK-610EF) but no, I chose a completely different direction that defies reason...

I have a Spyderco Vallotton Sub-Hilt folder en route and I have no idea why I bought it. Maybe because I have nothing else like it? Uncertain... Sure is one sexy blade though!

Can anyone relate?

Thanks for reading! :)

Variety is the spice of life! I've seen that knife, and would have to agree on her sexiness!

It doesn't matter why you did it Timberweasel! All that matters is you have a beautiful, classy, very functional knife headed your way!

Congradulations, you just became apart of a fraternity of knife lovers that do that very kind of thing all the time, get used to it! It's a good thing.

It's good to have broad tastes. I own Busse, and GEC. It's kinda weird, but I feel you. I buy stuff sometimes, that doesn't fit a motif. Just acquire what you like, it's nice to just be yourself and enjoy good cutlery. I think you're going to be very impressed with the Spyderco, some of their higher end stuff is bordering on semi-custom quality.

Don't handle the Vallotton automatic version of that terrific knife. It is almost irresistible even if you don't care for autos. :)

We all know that thin blades slice better and that light, slim knives are more comfy to carry, but there's just something awesome about an overbuilt folder with a thick blade. I have several. I don't carry them all that often, but they sure are fun to gawk at and fondle.:D

I LOVE my Vallotton. It opens REALLY smoothly and with a truly satisfying 'Thunk'. But you are right, it IS a pocket tank. I'm not certain, but I think that it MIGHT be the thickest knife that I own, and that's including the ZT's.

I've been drooling over a Vallotton for a year. I've yet to buy one because I know it'll be too big for me. The largest knife I actively carry is my Paramilitary II. Any bigger than that and I find it makes common use tasks more difficult. I don't mind weight. Lately I've been keeping a Leatherman Charge loose in my front left pocket, and that thing is an ingot of steel compared to all my knives. But I dislike really thick knives. I think my thickest knife currently is my Benchmade Guacho. It's similar to a 940 but it has beefy aluminum handles and recurve tanto blade. It is just way too mean looking to give up. Not to mention it's M4... mmm. I've tried really hard to like the CRK large Sebenza but I can't. The small is better for me.

The Valotton is longer than a Para II, thicker than a Guacho, and even though it's sexier than a Sebenza, I don't think I'd keep it if I bought one. I need to hurry up and finish my atomic shrink-ray so I can finally have a Small Sebenza 25, a mini Vallotton, a 2.5in Benchmade 940, oh and the Nobel Prize. Yeah that'll be sweet.

I did that recently, i prefer small thin knives , i dislike and sold my techno and now i am really excited carrying cs american lawman.

Well, my Vallotton Sub-Hilt has arrived and I finally got around to snapping a few pics. Here she is...

Gorgeous knife with the excellent level of fit & finish that we've all come to expect from Spyderco's Taichung models. While I awaited its arrival, I watched a lot of videos on this knife and the two most common phrases used were "very, very" and "really, really." It's true. This knife is both "really, really" and "very, very" in pretty much all respects... :D Here are a few comparison photos with a Para 2 and an Emerson Horseman:

The only criticism I have is that I wish they'd rounded the handles more. It's pretty squared off and I think the severe corners would create hot-spots with extended use. I probably won't carry it much, if at all, but it's still a beautiful piece for the collection! :)

Awesome piece! Thanks for posting pictures. I think I need to get one to, at the very least, satisfy my curiosity.
