I don't have a large collection by any means but amongst the 20-or-so knives I have, Spydies take up half with a few ESSE's in there and before today I only had one Benchmade (551 Griptilian). The rest are low end SOG's and some old Schrade pocket knives, just to illustrate my collection in a nutshell.
Today I went to my local knife shop and picked up a Benchmade Waddell's Bone Collecor with the gree/black g-10 and a plain blade. This knife has a very special feel in my hands that I can't explain. I have held CRK's and Striders and seen their fit and finish and I realize what they bring to the table as far as being in the "tops" category but I feel like this knife and many other BM's have their places right along side those knives as far as their capabilities and build quality. The word 'solid' just rings in my head when I hold this thing. The milling on the g-10 is impeccable and the blade is dead centered and pretty sharp. I like how the g-10 has a denser and harder feel to it compared to a lot of Spyderco's g-10, not that I don't like theirs. I feel that the milled ridges and contouring are necessary as a result of the smoother g-10 but 'wow' are the grip and ergos amazing. The blade swings very smoothly, almost on a Manix 2 level but not quite, and is very solid with no play.
Before today, it was a tie between the Military and Manix 2 for my favorite knife but I'm not so sure anymore. I really love this thing. Guess I'm gonna have to get one of the new walnut handled ones.
Knives are worse than crack!
