I don't think I'm crazy...

Well ckearly knife and the box don't match.
But what exactly is the knife? It doesn't say "Taiwan" or "China",
it says "Cold Steel USA".
I'm not familar with this TM.
Were there US made TMs in all black in SK5??

(I have owned the old Carbon V TM, presently own the Taiwan 01 TM, and'the Sanmai TM.)

Obviously its not San Mai but I dont think its SK-5 either. My SK-5 TM - which I appear to have mislaid momentarily - def says China on it. Is it not perhaps a new O-1 version?

Possibly the last issue of a Carbon V Trail Master. They were black and US made. I'll have to see if I have one buried somewhere to check the markings.

Definitely not. The new 0-1s have "0-1 Taiwan" on it. Plus CS doesn't offer the TM in black anymore.
I'm sure cause I have one.

The Black Made in USA Carbon V TMs were made between 2002-2006. They did not have white lettering, and
had carbon V stamped in the ricasso.
After 2007, CS had SK5 TMS made in China. Then later in Taiwan.
I can not not place any TM that looks like that photo, black with white lettering and "USA".
At this point I strongly suspect that ebay knife may be a face (counterfeit).

A real Carbon V Black TM:

Could definitely be fake, but either way looking at the profile of the seller it seems like it is just a misunderstanding. This seller looks like one of those people who just does ebay for a living and sells used goods they pick up elsewhere. So I'm guessing they know nothing about the knife and just assume that the knife is what it says on the box. To be fair if you knew nothing about knives it would be hard to decipher just from the markings on the blade. All that said it is a significant difference and should be corrected.

*edit: removed some grammatical errors

And I messaged him about it days ago..... and nothing yet

You're right, in many cases Sellers, especially ones not shipping a NIB knife from overseas, has no idea they are
selling a counterfeit. They won't respond to being told they're selling a fake cause that puts them in a bind,
they don't want to be told, they just warnt the item to sell. The only authority than can do anything is Ebay itself
who can pull the item. But wt the countless times I've reported to ebay thay haven't done anything.
