I'm waiting for my new Sebenza since January (it is a large regular). During this period, I was saving money and I'm trying to plain my next purchase. The damacus Sebenza is very interesting, but I didn't understand what CRK offers. I was reading some threads about this subject, but I'm more confused than before. :(

How much kind of damacus blades CRK offers (are they available with a standard handle) ?
How look this blades like ?
What steels are used ?
Do you have some specifications and pictures ?

Please help me !!!

Thank in advance ! ;)

I believe that the Damascus is a little hard to come by and the ones on the drawing board are taken. For the nost part, Chris Uses Devein Thomas' Damascus. You can find pics all over the net if you look. THe options are on the Chris Reeve site under "price list." Damascus is beautiful. I have a special soft sopt for "raindrop" damascus. I will have a raindrop damascus knife one day. Other than looking cool, it has NOTHING to offer. Well... it DOES have a natural serration thing going on... with the differend metals giving away at differend rates and all.. so... Damascus is pretty (and expensive), and S30V is effective, and stock! that answer your question?

Louky,

Bonjour....

In determining which Damascus you might want to have fitted into your Sebenza, you might want to define the tasks that you knife might be called upon to perform.

CRK offers a limited supply of Devin Thomas STAINLESS Damascus in Ladder and Raindrop patterns. These are truly "user" steels and will perform very well in all conditions with a minimum of maintenance afterwards.

The Higher Carbon and Nickel Damascus steels (also from Devin Thomas) are more pleasing to the eye as due to the carbon and nickel content more of a contrast of patterns can be achieved. However, these need more care and should not be used to cut acidy foods- fruits etc. These are also available is a greater varity of interesting patters.

So, it’s a trade-off- if the knife is to be used constantly in all conditions, then you should consider the Stainless Damascus steels- if it is more for show and light use then the Carbon and Nickel Steel will produce a nicer look.

Since I have a number of options for users I do like the conventional Damascus over the Stainless Damascus in terms of the contrast. By the same token I have considered selling this one just because I don't want to trash the knife with acidic fruits or blood for that matter. If you cleanup afterwards I guess it isn't an issue, but I sure wouldn't want to slice up an orange or clean an animal and then leave the blade.

Thank for your answers,

I'm a patient person, if I find exactly what I want, I'm able to wait a long moment until I received my knife... ;)

I own a few Damascus bladed knives, and it is not to put it in a drawer ! Of course, I understand the peoples who want to have a state of the art Damascus knife only for the pleasure to own a more wrought (?) blade.

I want to combine the two : efficiency and beauty. The stainless Damascus seems to be the relevant. But there are so many variants from Devin Thomas : Raindrop, Pinstripe, Spirograph, Reptilian, Zebra, Zebra mosaic (merci Neil et True North Knives !) the only stainless Damascus I have found is the Ladder one.

Are others stainless Damascus available ? What is the price applied to a large regular (with standard handle) stainless Damascus Sebenza ?

Have a nice day !
:D
