Like the title suggests, I picked up a balisong at the local flea matket (I thought about asking to see the balisong just to see the looks of confusion on their faces).

It is cheaply nickel plated, and seems to be of the "stainless" brand. (At the same type of place a year ago I asked the guy about the steel on what I thought was a Spyderco. He said, "stainless steel". How Quaint...)

BUT, it is really smoothe to open, and the blade is dull so I don't have to worry about cutting myself while twirling. Now i need to know ehre I can learn some neat tricks as well as practical deployment techniques.

Anybody?

http://www.balisongxtreme.com I like that site, and it's made by a fellow forumite.

I think a balisong is a terrible tactical weapon compared to a fixed blade. I think they're pretty when you manipulate 'em so I have several. It's art.

Such a funny quote, true or not.

Any folder is a lesser weapon, if you actually get into a knife fight, but balis and switchblades have an advantage before the fight actually begins: if someone sees you click a switchblade, or flip a bali (with finess, at least), they may think twice and just take off running. The key is to give the impression that you do this every day, and you will consider gutting such an unworthy opponent as some light training. (of course, that part of the post probably belongs over in Practical Tactical

SWEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!

I got on BalisongExtreme.com and it is the most useful knife site I have ever seen! I can do the first three of the Beginner excercises, and that is after 20 minutes of trying!

My mother runs a children's museum and when i was little, I remember one of the volunteers there who could do all sorts of neat stuff with the infamous "butterfly knife". He could flip it, twirl it, throw it... I suppose that I have had a thing for them ever since, but never really had the chance to learn it.

Thanks a ton guys!
