My Benchmade 610 Rukus, #0657/1000 was developing some recurring horizontal blade play. Once a week or so I was tightening it up, so I decided to put some loc-tite on it to fix it for good.

BM apparently puts their own loc-tite on at least one side of the pivot screw, so when I was re-threading that pivot screw in, it hit a bump of their loc-tite and cross threaded the first thread. It was all over from there, looks like the liner will need to be replaced.

I fix computers for a living, and in all the assembling and disassembling I've done, I can't tell you the last time I stripped a screw...
:barf:

Call them and ask for a new pivot. Won't hurt to try. Several years ago they sent me a full set of Torx screws to replace the Allen screws in an old AFCK when I asked.

I have #0659/1000. Best of luck.

Good luck it couldn't hurt to ask about a replacment, but I wouldn't tell them you took it apart I think that voids the warranty?

Call them, they will send you a new pivot screw. I bought a used Mini Skirmish here on the forums and it had a stripped pivot head, I called Benchmade and they sent me a brand new one.

I think the best thing to do would be to contact them and be honest about what happened. Ask them what they can do for you. If they handle it under warranty, good. If they don't, then suck it up.

I contacted them and I am being honest. If it was just the screw, I'd order that. I fear I've stripped the liner too...

I bought a ruckus and took the clip off to repaint it and promptly lost one of the screws. I called benchamade and they not only sent two of the screws I needed but also sent another clip! I'm sure they will make it right for you.

yes...they have very good customer service. Another reason among many to buy Benchmade...and Spyderco. If you have problems or get a defective product they will make things right, typically with a smile. My experience with both these companies is they take their reputations seriously and pride themselves in producing quality knives....and then try to give excellent customer service after the sale. I suggest you call them....you will have your solution in no time.

By the way....the Ruckus looks to be a very nice knife...a bit of a behemoth for my needs...but I find it to very appealing. I'm sure it's extraordinarily well made,
-regards

Sorry to hear of your misfortune of having the pivot just fall out while you were using it.

;)

I was a fan of telling the truth until I discovered that if I had not mentioned my ...ABUSE... of a knife to a semi-known knifemaker (?) that it would have been covered by the warranty. I ...still.... think that even throwing a knife on the ground should NOT snap the blade off clean.

But....told the truth....got my reward. A ...discount... which I would have used but he restricted the discount to ONLY the SAME STYLE knife that is made with a BUILT IN STRESS RISER in the sloppy grind.

Well, 7 long weeks later, and my baby is back.

Benchmade:
Replaced both pivot pins
Used existing liners (tapped out 1 thread?)
Sharpened the blade, removing 1 roll
Replaced the pocket clip.

And how much did this cost? :(

$0!
What a company. I clearly outlined how stripping the screw was my fault and to please let me know how much I owed and they stood behind it! Super impressed! I wish turnaround was quicker, but the nice rep explained that due to deer season ending around the time I turned it in, plenty of other yokels had broken their knives.

In the meantime the mini-grip I ordered for my little cousin for xmas arrived. Pretty nice little axis-lock for only $50. Hopefully he'll appreciate the knife and the company as much as I do.

I am glad that you were honest about what happened. That is great service. I am happy that your baby is all better now.

Benchmade is a great company... 7 weeks is a long time, however if they are really busy theres not much you can do. End result is they took good care of you, even though it wasn't their fault. Honesty is the best policy...
