Finally quit buying more handguns than I need and went out on a limb and got a bolt action rifle (haven't had anything but military high cap semi-auto rifles since I was a kid).

I just got a Savage 93R17 in .17HRM with a bull barrel and synthetic stock. I'm moving to Dallas soon and figured I would buy something to eradicate varmints with.

I put a BSA "Sweet 17" 6x18 scope on it, and it will shoot the lanyard hole of a Leek at 100 yds. Adjusting for windage on a 17gr bullet at 2500fps is gonna generate a quick refresher in calculus past 100yds. The scope is made specifically for the round and you just adjust the drop for the yardage at preset marks. I didn't even know they made scopes like this for civilian purchase. Its amazing.

Anyone else buy any cool guns lately?

Yes- Just picked up a Remington 700 in .270 and paired it with a Bushnell Elite 4200 scope. Looking to eradicate some hogs and deer.

Just bought a Glock 17, do eliminate close up varmints (which I actually have with the 9mm round) but I do have a Ruger M77 22-250 (~5000 fps) with a bull barrel, with a 6-24X40 on it which turns the sneaky varmints into pink clouds in approximately .123476047601630476047655th's of a second :D

I usually use my bolt action Reminton 541-T .22 with a 2-7X33 Leupold for medium range though.

How the heck are you knocking on 5000 fps with a .22-250? My buddy shoots one alot, and the hottest and lightest loads he has made are 40gr at about 4200 fps. Find some lighter bullets?

I haven't killed any critters yet, but I shot some apples, tomatoes, and potatoes. The bullet violently disrupts within 175 yards and literally explodes. Pretty neat actually, its like a baby .22-250 VMax or .25-06 Silvertip.

Good purchase...the trigger is amazing for a factory job.

My last purchase was a samll frame Glock 27. My next purchase will hopefully be a Mini 14. I would like to have another deer rifle (30-06) to replace my 30-30 but I think a .223 will be a bit more fun and cheaper to shoot.

You're right, it's actually close to 4,100 :o my bad.

Many years ago, my Bro-in-law and I did some experimenting w/ a .17bee. Tried to see how fast we could make a 25 grain bullet go. Around 4500 fps we'd get a shotgun pattern on the targets at about 30 yards. We had to move the target up because we couldn't see where we were hitting at 100yds. It took us a while of playing, but figured out we were vaporizing the bullet and past 40 or so yards there was no bullet left.

The fastest thing Ive ever seen was a 5,900 fps .30 cal 200gr sabot round out of a .50 BMG. 14k ft/lbs.

While it's not a new gun, I did just pick up a Colt AR-15 SP1. The SP1s are the 1st civilian version of the M-16 & these were actually made alongside them. It has a bayonet lug & the "birdcage" flash suppressor. They're very clean looking, with no forward assist & a fixed stock.

I also got a Lan-Cay M9 bayonet for it & it looks SWEET with it attached. The only negative (& I don't consider it one) is that it has a 1:12 twist, so anything over 55 gr. isn't going to be as accurate, but that's OK as that's what I use anyways.

The two favorites rifles in the stock of my collection are my 5.56x45-millimeter NATO-chambered Mini-14 (originally used by the Navy's SEAL Team Six in the stead of the M16-series platform because of the time-tested reliability of its action) and my most recent purchase, an M1 Garand "Tanker" version from Fulton Armory I bought at the Camp Perry National Matches. While it cost a pretty penny ($1495 on sale), it is a beauty---a match grade, shortened version of my favorite rifle of all time, the .30-06 M1 Garand.
