I was going to post in the other thread , but this idea deserves its own thread.

We all have the collecting bug, we all get excited about getting a box in the mail, and opening it to find a knife that fills a hole in our collections. But it’s fleeting, a week later you need another fix. It’s really like being a junkie.

I’m going to have my wife randomly pick a knife from my collection. Pack it up and bring it to me. With the disgusted look on her face. That says “Another friggin knife?!!”

Then I say “Oh cool! I don’t even remember what I ordered”.

Then I get to open it fondle it, be amazed at how sharp it is. Then either carry it or put it in its special spot in my collection. “Oh look it is the last one I need for this set, there is even a spot left open for it!”

Lol.

Then wait for the next package.

My wife never complains about all the knives, she even encourages me sometimes. She's a gem. We toured Böker and Otter Messer together in Solingen. Still, I feel sheepish when another one arrives in the mail. Even those irresistible bargains, like the $30 Case Congress that was floating in the 'Bay. I haven't shown her that one yet.

I think you are right on. I have enough knives to cut everything I need for the rest of my life, yet I still peruse the Marketplace--every day, even multiple times a day. And the New Arrivals sections in my favorite enabling websites. I think it's more the hit from having it arrive and the new toy syndrome that keeps me going. That and the desire to bodger around and change things to my liking, even if I realistically will never ever carry it. I got a Nagini from BHQ after someone talked about it (yes, blaming you Wes) for the sole purpose of grinding it to fit my hand and putting on a new handle. I like the idea of bypassing the expense and just getting the high, and I think my wife would find it hilarious, a total win-win.

It will probably work when I get dementia.
:) Late at night , after some adult refreshment , I often peruse various knife sources new and used for hours .

More than once I've run across something very appealing and exciting , only to eventually remember that I already own one the very same or so similar as to make no difference . :p

So , yes ...not that far fetched that if "someone" snuck one of my less noticed out my collection and "re-gifted " to me , I'd probably be delighted . For awhile , at least .

This is just like my uncle who used to put a cigarette in his mouth but didn't light it. It satisfied his tobacco addition whilst preventing lung cancer.

This is a great idea to quench your thirst for new gleaming blades.
