I just ordered a 4.

I couldn't choose between the 4 and the 5. They are too cheap right now to not get at least one of them. I may get the 5 in the near future too.

I figured the 11 would be my first, but with the 4 going away, I decided that I better try one since I've been curious about it for a while.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to give it a workout for a bit. I've never even seen one in person though, so I suppose I could just give my first impressions

Congrats. Nothing like the angle of that dangle.

If I were in that Sophies choice situation, I'd have done the same. Great choice, you won't regret it.
When you finally get out to use it, you'll understand. Go ahead and start saving for your next!

Yea I have said that I may get the ...,,....,, welcome to the addiction enjoy the 4 😀

Machaxen!
A wonderful choice!
You'll be changed....for the good....forever....

Congrats on the steel! When you get it in your hand the first time, don't be surprised if it feels small. But those feelings will immediately disappear the first time you swing it. Enjoy!

I saw a picture on here last night that showed the 4,5,9 and a couple others together. I was surprised. I didn't realize that the 5 was an 8" knife. I kind of want a 9 also. I suppose this is how it all starts. Lol

Other than a few machetes, the biggest "outdoor" knife I have know is a rat 4. I do have a 12" tram bolo machete that I use a lot. Maybe the 4 will take it's place.

So, it is much smaller than I was expecting. Not necessarily bad though. It doesn't feel nearly as "choppy" in the hand as my 12" bolo machete. The angle feels a bit more exaggerated than I was expecting also.

I'm also not in love with the sheath. It seems like a sheath that was made to fit a bunch of knives, not specifically this one. It seems like it would work much better on a straight knife, like the 9. It has a lot of cool features and seems well made, it just doesn't fit the knife well. That being said, I don't really care about the sheath, as I dabble in kydex and leather, so I'll end up tossing something together for it. The knife is screaming for a piggyback knife to go with it, and I've never done a piggyback sheath before, so that could be a fun project.

The knife itself is cool though, and I'm not upset about my purchase. I really wish I could go use it outside soon. The more I play with the knife, the more exited I get about putting it to work. I'm impressed with the grinds, and the handle feels good for being plastic. I don't anticipate having issues with hot spots or anything.

I'm already thinking about my next Becker. They must put some kind of crack or something in the box with the knife. Lol

Hey DFarm.......

Thanks for your purchase ........ If you use the same "snap cut" that you would use with an axe you will find it quite choppy..... With a bit of practice you will find the sweet spot and all will be good....... The blade is capable of prodigious amounts of work....... Be safe , have fun and please let us know how it works for you......

I have a sheath Gary Brommeland made for me with a pouch that holds a SAK Rucksack and I love it.... With a Machax and a Rucksack or a Leatherman there is not a whole lot that needs be done you can't do.......

All best.....

Ethan

Here's what we get for now. Lol. Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics.

First picture is for scale, second picture is proof that the coating will not hold up to being used to open hop and barley based beverages. Lol

Thanks for the responses! I've been lurking here for a long time, mostly because I enjoy the atmosphere and it seems that a lot of folks here are outdoorsy and always up to something interesting.

It still blows me away that the designer of these knives will jump in and thank a new customer for their business. Very classy, and I appreciate it.(It seems that kind of thing isn't common these days) I will be buying more Beckers, based partly on this.

Is it out of place to request pictures of custom sheaths that you guys have for the machaxe?(the one Mr. Becker spoke of also)

Not out of place, but this deep in the thread it might get over looked. You might start a whole new thread for it. (And it will get you that much closer to a Beckerhead number - should you desire one.)

Welcome!
