I finally converted my surface grinder to run belts. I can easily put the stone back on if I have to. I was waiting on the serrated wheel which arrived today. It is 1in wide, 6in diameter and 95duro. I borrowed the tracking design for the idler wheel from my Bader BIII. The upright, arm and tracking assembly I milled from 1/2 aluminum. This runs a 1X42 belt. It took a little tweaking to get it to track properly but it now works great.
The first pic is the old grinder and the next few are how it looks now.
Thank for looking,
Chuck

Nice conversion. Simple and effective. I have my eye on a nice Browne and Sharp machine; just need the money. You know how that goes.

Only thing I'd be concerned about is that spring loosing pressure over time. As per Ed Caffrey's suggestion I converted my GIB to use a guided compression spring after having tracking problems from the old spring wearing out, and I've been much happier with it.

Nice conversion regardless. Have you been using it with normal grinding wheels thus far or has it been in limbo waiting for the belt conversion?

I have been using it with normal grinding wheels and building the parts here and there. I had it all assembled and was just waiting for the serrated wheel. Now to get some Blaze 1X42 belts.
