I finally decided

I think I have decided on the make of the Hinderer I want. I WANT an XM18 3.5" non flipper with the slicer ground blade. I have been debating and reading a lot and finally came to that decision. Now I have to get the funds together and somehow convince my lovely wife that I really NEED this knife (like all the others I have bought). She really is lovely to (especially when you consider what she has to put up with from me).

Anyway just typing out my thoughts here. This is my new knife project. Wish me luck.

That is a great choice. Whatever you spend on the knife, youll likely be able to easily recover by selling if you decide that you dont like it (yeah, right. Not like an xm?). And if you do keep it the knife will last you a lifetime. Problem is that it wont be long before you start looking for another one! Its a disease i tell ya

I finally decided I want a XM24 Hellfire so now that the hard part is over, I just have to buy one :D

Good luck.

I sometimes wish I could limit my want to just one (more) Hinderer, but that's unrealistic. :D

i preffer spanto :)
there are many slicers on market but there is only one spanto :)

That is the one part that I am not 100% for sure on. How does the spanto do in the slicing role?

Now all I have to do is sell a few things, along with my soul, to get the money for the knife.

I sold some of my favorite knives to come up with the cash to buy my XM-24 and I can't remember which knives I sold, And it was only a couple of weeks ago:rolleyes:

I have been contemplating the very same thing. Hard to swallow though. I am pretty fond of the knifes I was thinking about selling. Decisions, decisions...

I hear ya, But the XM-24 has been in my pocket every day since I got it and the knives I sold were just sitting in a drawer, They were nice to admire from time to time, But if I need a knife while I'm out, My Hinderer is right there!!

Oh Yeah!!!!:D

That totally makes sense. I have a got to knife also (right now CRK large Insingo) and all the rest just seem to sit. Except the ZT 0551 I just got. It seems to have pushed the others out for a while. That ZT is part of the reason I am wanting an XM-18. If the ZT is that nice whats the real deal like?

I had and traded an 0551, Definitely a nice knife, But now that I have the XM, I compare all other folders to it and they all come up short or close, But none match it and I've had quite a few, And I prefer larger blades for everyday carry. I have been keeping an eye out for a Large Sebenza in the trade forum but it wouldn't take the place of my XM, Maybe just carry it in my left pocket as a spare. The Insingo blade is cool though.

If you equate the ZT to "nice", the best way to describe a real deal XM is Nicer. :D

It is a pretty nice knife especially for the price range. It definitely isn't a custom or semi custom knife. I was impressed none the less.
I can only imagine how much "nicer" the real deal is.

Now the more that I read the more I am considering the spanto style blade. It looks VERY robust in all the pictures I have seen. If it slices as well as the "slicer" blade then it is a no brainer for me. I would expect some trade off between the two, or why else would there be the two styles offered?

If I may weigh in for what it's worth on two issues (good points) raised in this thread. Selling knives in a collection for a Hinderer and the slicing capability of a Spanto. As for the ZT vs the real thing, I do not own a ZT but I respect the opinions of those who have voiced theirs because I happen to know they own and use both - nothing quite like the real thing.
There are several (15-20) knives that will be leaving my collection because of the presence of Hinderers. I know I will not miss them because I don't care to carry them anymore. They are great knives. I liked them, carried them and used them. They bear recognized and respected names, nothing wrong with them but,
they are not Hinderers.
The slicing capability of my EDC spanto is superior to any and all of the hollow ground and FFG slicers (NIB) that will be departing. My slicing is paper, boxes, plastic, apples, wood etc. I keep my edges SHARP. Now, when I get done with my FFG/HG edges on my WEPS they will split and whittle a hair but I don't really call that "slicing".
So, fret not about knives once loved but passed on because there really is "greener grass" ;) and it's name begins with an "H" and as for slicing - that green grass would be in trouble with a nice sharp Hinderer spanto.

I was trying to get a little vid of some shop slicing but my download speeds aren't cooperating. I will edit/add it when it's done.

Thanks for the information Rubicon. I am really leaning that way also (selling some to get the XM). I think you may have helped my spanto vs slicer decision also. And the spanto looks pretty cool to.

Bushmaster that is a very nice looking knife. Very very nice indeed.

Heck I would be happy with either a spanto or a slicer. I am making significant head way with the wife also. It may happen sooner than I had originally thought. Good times. There may be some knives going up on the classifieds soon.
