Yes, it's a monster weighing in at around 20 lbs, but it's worth it. 2 bricks cut in half with a 2 1/8" hole cut in the middle of each. I placed these bricks inside a 5" square tube with 1/4" thick walls. 6" channel eight inches long for the base and six 3/8" rods separating the base from the forge. 1" wide L6 strips on the back and 1/8" mild plate on the front. 1" black pipe for the burner holder. Removable 1/4" steel plate on the back opening. A "Heavy Duty Pencil Tip Torch" under the brand "Mag-Torch" from Menards. It puts out a bigger flame than any other torch tip I've tried yet. My only concern is that it is brass and might melt.

Comments welcome!

PS: I have a working forge now and a big anvil. If I only had a hammer;)

I wanted it to be more portable and quick to set up than my one brick forge was. The single brick was so light that putting stock in and out would move it around. Getting it to stay in just the right position was a pain. I didn't like the idea of wire wrapping around the bricks. I saw somebody's industrial quality 1BF and decided that it's only problem was that it needed to be 2 bricks instead. I'm anxious to get home tonight and start hammering.

Well that's neat and all, but where are you going to beat hot metal with your anvil all used up to support that massive forge??

;) Great looking little forge there. Have fun hammering!

That looks great Charles! Moving to the dark side I see; good luck to you! Have fun hammering!

Looks good. 20# ain't bad, my vertical welding forge with the cast liner and 12" well casing is probably around 100#. I HATE moving it.

Happy Forging to you!

good job, how long do you think that pretty paint will last??:p

About 15 minutes, then the paint started to liquefy. It was high-temp paint, but didn't hold up very well. The base stays pretty cool, but I'm going to have to scrape it off of the main tube.

Nathan: That's why we buy two anvils!
