I finally got a 943, I like the design but this thing has some serious blade play. Especially when closed, the blade moves enough to hit both scales. Is this normal? Thanks, BK96

What they^ said, and once you figure out how tight you like it, take out the screw and add some loctite or teflon tape to keep it in position.

Nearly all folding knives have blade play when closed. When open some have blade play that can't be adjusted out.

When adjusting the pivot screw be sure and use a torx driver not an allen wrench.

I got my 943 BNIB and had severe blade play. Cleaned it, tightened it up and lubed it and it took away most it of. Tightened all the way still yielded bladeplay for me though. If it still has bladeplay while tightened. Benchmade would value their warranty and fixi it for you. Let us know what happens!

My 940 has a little side to side movement when closed. Before I tell you what I think, how about first you tell me what you think? Is it something you can remedy by tightening the pivot screw up a bit? Is it actually hitting the scales/liners when opening and closing? Or are you sitting on your couch and mashing it back and forth making it hit them?

Probably every folding knife you own will have that same movement when closed. Unless it is rattling back and forth when the knife is closed don't worry about it. If it does not rub against the scales or liners when opening and closing the only real concern is a tight lockup when it is open.

I know an Allen wrench isn't the best tool, but I couldn't find a torx driver and the Allen wrench worked so I thought he might have the same problem of not having a torx driver readily available.

But it is so much easier to pick up the correct Torx driver than it is to bung up the screw with the wrong driver and be up a creek.

Sorry this response took a little while - I've been busy with work and the holidays.

Tightening the pivot did help, unfortunately it loosened right back up. I'm hoping to get blue loctite and a torx driver this weekend. Do y'all think ace hardware will have both? And what size is the benchmade pivot screw? Also, I have never had to do this before, do I just take out the pivot screw put on a little loctite then adjust the screw to were the blade play is reduced and the blade still opens quickly and smoothly?

Thank you!

I forgot to mention that play is fairly significant right now. When the knife is in my pocket and I tap or bump it you can hear the blade click on the liners.
