Good for your parents. You never know what might happen with anyone experienced or inexperienced with knives. Any accident could get you and your parents in hot water. Take it as a learning experience and respect the knife!
Yeah, probably not a good idea to bring knives to a friend's house. While you may be responsible with your knives and you might think your friends are, sometimes it turns out they are not or an accident happens. When you are talking about kids, the parents can really make yours and your parent's life miserable if something happens and you'd probably feel bad if something happened.
Hmm, I have a code of honor so to speak with my knives. If you aren't worthy to hold it I keep it away usually. The only time I've broke that rule was with my ' other ' grandparents, in that case my grandfather made a complete ass of himself and said "made in Taiwan it sucks haha har har der da der". That's the last time I let him hold a blade that could sever a man in 2 or delimb you if you're not careful. Actually he said that after I cut down 4 trees for him, started a fire and burned them.
