Woohoo I finally got my M/A SOCOM today. It is every bit as good as I expected, the fit and finish are superb for a production knife with a rock solid lockup. I think it may be one of the first runs as the 4" blade is dated october 98 so it has been unopened and pristinely kept for five years with no rust on the bead blast finish. The feel of it in my hand is absolutely great - bye, bye MOD tempest I have found my perfect knife.

This won't be an EDC due to it's size and aggressive appearance to sheeple but to me it is a thing of beauty.

They also included a free small Arkansas white sharpening stone and 3 complimentary sweets,I can't ask for any more can I..:D

If your are interested I got it from www.premiumknives.com, but they don't have any black finish SOCOM's left

Very nice.
I know you'll like it. BTW, isn't it illegal in the U.K. anyway?
Not that it ever stops me, but then again knife laws are much more relaxed over here.

Yeah definitely illegal to carry, but not to own. I would be frightened to lose it anyway. The legal length limit is 3" although laws may be reviewed after some kid got stabbed to death at school recently.

J.C., man ONE KID gets stabbed and all of a sudden it's the knifemakers' fault. Frickin' idiots. Was it a kitchen knife or a real tactical?

I don't think the police have isuued a decription of the knife.
I think the knife laws are OK, I only read somthing about it in the paper, hopefully nothing will change.

Anyway, what oil would you recommend for this knife, the opening is rather stiff and I don't see any oil at the joint.

Personally, I use Militech, which is a great oil,
but Eesox (yes, it is spelled that way) is the best proven rust protector, I've been meaning to switch over, but I haven't yet.
If your not worried about rust protection, mineral oil works really well, but militech does a great job of cleaning. Although WD-40 does a great job of cleaning also.

don't ... 3 in 1 oil sucks for this kinda thing...it's too gooey...

Well ...that's what i've found anyway...why don't you use tuf glide or militec-1

you got a fancy knife...use a fancy lube...if you're in the uk then get the tuf-glide kit at heinnie.com

i had trouble finding lube as well...but then someone got me tuf-glide...what a difference it makes compared to 3 in 1...
