I have been looking at this knife for years, literally. I am a tough sell and I felt that I didn't yet "need" this model. I found a good deal and finally ordered one. I am looking forward to the light weight and carefree maintenance, although I am pretty picky about taking care of my knives. This will be carried when I go to the ocean, maybe a little camping, and many times when I expect to get wet. It will be used for EDC, a little. The main reason I don't expect to use it a lot for EDC is that I plan to tie a lanyard onto it, and I don't like those in or out of my pockets. I'm thinking about doing something where I can clip the lanyard on and take it off easily.

From those out there who own this model (or a derivative), what should I expect? Anything unusual?

Nothing unusual (except they really don't rust but you already know that). I've had mine since they first hit the market (black grip, not yellow) and have had no problems. Lightweight and compact, takes a good edge, great fit and finish. Doesn't hold an edge as well as some steels but easy to touch up again. Mine has been in the ocean many times with no ill effect. The blade is not very scratch resistant but that has never worried me.

I have a few of the Salt series. You can expect the blade to scratch easily, that it will sharpen very easily and quickly.
That it will not hold an edge like a VG10. The tradeoff is well worth it though. They love the water:D

Cool :)
I am definitely getting this knife as a USER. I don't mind scratches and scars on my real user blades. There are others that I want to keep more pristine, but basically all my knives are users. I love the yellow handles too. It is so visible and great for its intended purpose.

I have seen some of them (maybe in a youtube vid) with adjustable pivot pins - hex or torx. If that is a new feature, I really hope that mine has it! Can anyone tell me if that is new or if I am mistaken for some reason?

I have a Salt 1. It's a fantastic little knife. Surprisingly enough, the H-1 holds a wicked edge, I was able to get my Salt 1 hair-popping sharp. Very light weight and like you said, maintenance free! I've already had mine in the rain and dropped it in the water. No rust at all!

I love my yellow salt! I have a long lanyard on mine that I attach to my belt loop when I go fishing (several times per week). The H1 steel hardens with use and sharpening. Several times I have accidentally dropped my knife into the water, over the side...the lanyard has saved it. Several years of hard use and it is amazingly sharp and zero rust. I have not noticed any problems with scratching...

I can not say enough good things about the Salt and H1 steel. Buy it, you'll love it!

I'm pretty sure I read that they switched to an adjustable pivot because it is easier to manufacture.

I don't know what other peoples definition of a wicked edge is but mine doesn't hold one at all. It will get really sharp but it gets dull just as quick. It's good for a boat knife that is exposed to saltwater but doesn't do real well as an EDC because of how quick it gets dull. At least not in my opinion.

Cool. I debated on whether to get the PE or SE. I think both are great options!

Thanks for the info, all. I can't wait to get it and then get it wet :)

I got it!!!

...and it has an adjustable pivot, just as I like :) It's such a simple and inexpensive knife, but I have still been looking out for it everyday when I get home. I love how basic it is. No liners, not many pins, nothing fancy, but everything that needs to make it functional. Very good blade length, for the size of the handle, and it came shaving sharp. It's my third Spyderco, and my second this week. I think this will be a fun knife (partly because of the non-intimidating color) that I am not afraid to carry and use a lot (because of the relatively low cost and great steel).

I just got a black one in SE. Very sharp, very light and a great size for EDC. I used to have a PE Pacific Salt. It was a little large for clipping into a bathing suit but a great knife also. I found the PE version to get dull very quickly in use and since I mainly had it for travel when I usually don't have sharpening equipment, I opted to sell it and try the SE Salt 1 instead. Reportedly H1 in serrated really holds an edge. So far I'm delighted with it. It's my first SE knife in a long time and it's going to take some getting used to, but I wanted to have at least one SE among my Spydecos.
