I find myself in a predicament?

I've started buying doubles or even triples of things I like because right after I buy one it's usually discontinued. I've done this with everything from slippers to leathers. When I can do it I don't hesitate. The problem is I already have two Manix 2 G-10s, one in satin and one in DLC. It's by far my favorite, just beating out the PM2. I find myself wanting another Spydie, either another DLC Manix 2 or another Para Military 2 in satin or DLC in either black or digicam scales. Nothing else really interests me as the only other folder that's around that size is the Tenacious and I already have one. Is the smarter investment a Para Military 2 that seems to be on everybody's list or should I just go Manix 2 again? If I ever feel the need would the Manix 2 even be worth trying to resell?

Right now I'm leaning more towards the Para Military 2 for the possibility of resale or just because I like them a whole hell of a lot, though not as much as my Manix 2s. If I go Manix 2 I'd likely never have to buy another EDC folder for the rest of my life, my niece and nephews probably wouldn't either for that matter. About the only thing that would make me change my mind would be a slightly smaller Para Military 2, but Mr. Sal Glesser said that could to be awhile.

So what do you guys think, play it safe with a Para Military 2? Add another excellent Manix 2 in DLC? Or should I wait for the Amsterdam thing in March that I just heard about? Do new folders get released during this event? As always, thanks for all the help!

I say stick with what you like. Maybe look for Manix sprint runs like CF or Cruwear. Several FRCP lightweight versions out there too.

from my perspective, a lot of this will also hinge on what your financial situation is. I know initially when I started collecting I desperately wanted to keep up with every cool sprint run that Spyderco put out there, just because they were almost always such cool knives. only a couple of knives in, I realized there was no way I could keep up with that for months, much less for the years I plan on trying to keep collecting. personally, I also don't think of knives as investments. they can hold or grow in value if you choose a knife that continues to grow in demand years down the road, and if you keep it in excellent / pristine condition. but that sort of implies that you're not using your knife, and by extension, you're not truly enjoying this knife that you paid for.

but, everyone's resources and priorities vary. some people buy knives just to look at them or just to know that they own them, and some people can pretty much buy an endless supply of new, awesome knives. more power to them, I'm happy to enjoy the photos they post and stories they share with everyone else here on BF.

in summary, buy the PM2 if it brings you joy. if owning another Manix 2 would bring you more joy, get that instead. there will always be opportunities to buy more cool knives or trade one for the other in the future.

I second the comment to find some M2s in different configurations. Adds depth from a collection standpoint, but also versatility in carry options. S90V and S110V would afford you a different enough cutting and resharpening experience to make it worth the investment.

That and they crop up on the Trading forum all the time. :)

ETA: Also, consider a M2 XL. Especially if you have room in your arsenal for a bigger knife.

I had forgot about a knife I'd looked at a month ago when I was looking to buy my first Spyderco, the Stretch. I'm surprised that nobody recommended it? It was pretty much sold out everywhere or people had started charging higher (collector?) prices than when I looked at it a month ago. Knife Works was lower than what the asking price was a month ago so I ordered 1 from them. It's built like a Delica and Endura but the size is right in the middle of the 2, the Goldilocks zone of pocket knives for me. I'll put some pics up when it comes in, thanks for the help guys!

Don't buy anything. Just step back for a few months and enjoy using what you have.

I'd actually agree with that before you initiate some hoarding habits.

But that said, there are several other options in that similar size range. If you like the Manix 2 you may also like the Domino.

The Stretch was a good score!
It was one that really grew on me to become one of my favorites. Out of my EDC rotation it probably has the most blade cutting length, but somehow still feels smaller in pocket than a PM2. The CF version of the Stretch is even thinner and fits in pocket great, but they are hard to find now...
