I forged my first piece!

I finished forging my first piece yesterday! It doesn't look like much, but I'm pretty proud! :D

I started with a half circle of coil spring just like that and this is what I've got! It took me 10 hours ( :eek: ) in the shop, but I'm really happy with the progress! Here are some more pictures.

Boy does my arm hurt today! :eek:

BTW, anyone who can post pictures to the forum, please save these pictures and post them for me. I don't know how long my host will last...
 
Looks good! That was a lot of work! How are you planning on doing the grinding? Files? An overnight soak in vinegar will remove all the scale if you are planning on using files. (scale will dull a file quick)

Actually, I have a very nice slack belt grinder! Hopefully it will be ready for a handle next time. Only problem is that it will be a couple weeks before I can get back to the shop...:(

Speaking of handles, what material should I use? I was told I would be doing a "blind tang".
