I found this Maxpedition Active Shooter bag and I had to try it out. I'm not 100% sure about it yet. But, it definitely has potential.

The add ons are a Monkey Combat Admin pouch, a compass/GPS holder, a small Roly Poly pouch, and of course the Izula.

Max makes some really nice bags i just can't get past the made in Taiwan part. It seems like for the money they charge they should be able to make them domestically.

I've been looking for a new "go bag". I really like the size and layout. Let us know how it performs and thanks for the pics.

I have to agree with you but at the same time, I've tried alot of bags and have yet to find anything that holds up as well as their products.

Maxped is one of my exceptions to my attempted ban on buying products made in the far east.

That's only because RAT hasn't started making bags yet :)

I can tell right now, that I'm going to have to get a top handle sewn on it. I've already got to much crap in it....

I didn't like the flap on the fatboys and jumbos, which is why this one interested me so much. I like the idea of being able to access the bag without haveing to take it off the shoulders too. This would be just a quick walk bag around known areas, not some all day hike with the possibility of difficult situations. I'd stay with my bigger PF2 of F2 for those outtings.

The MCAP has a neat feature in that a map case is in the front pull down pocket. It makes reference on the go easy. The only problem is, I'd have to use a 1:250000 scale map so that I don't walk off my map every few hours. LOL I'm kidding, but the viewable area is pretty small.

more later....

I agree. That's why I purchased a Kifaru pack instead. 100% USA craftsmanship.

Only problem is, Kifaru doesn't make the smaller add-on pouches. In fact, no domestic maker makes the sheer variety of pouches.

But I do love me some Kifaru, especially a "Claymorganiser" Claymore + Organizer on front + shoulder strap.

Very nice John. It's tough to beat MaxP for making a great variety of bags and pouches. I'm taking my son and his wife shopping for a bag at Lighthound, near Houston, on Saturday. I'll be sure to point out the Active Shooters bag to him.

After you stick a water bottle in there, is there still quite a bit of room?

The bottle in the picture is a 15 oz nalgene nested in a soup can and surrounded with an insulated neoprene holder. I did a review on the contents of the bottle in another thread a while back. It's a last ditch kit. Along with that, I have a couple of cliff bars, an orange survival blanket, FAK/Survival Kit Combo, folded maps in plastic bags, 8 battery Volta case, Garmin E-trex Vista GPS, bandanna, and an M2 pouch with digital camera.

The front pocket holds a gorilla tripod, flashlight, various OTC meds in the pill bottle, handy wipes, poncho, hobo fishing kit, fire tender, strike force fire steel with wet fire blocks, water bags, and water purification tabs.

The MCAP holds that navigation aids, diamond sharpener, pens, pencils, notebook, compass #1, bug juice, multitool, and current use map if needed. I've got my camenga compass in the side pouch.

With the M2 pouch on my hip, I still have plenty of room for possibles in the main pouch, as well as some in the secondary pouch.

I'm still thinking about reorganizing the contents to do away with the MCAP. This would reduce bulk, but also decrease accessibility. I'll wait till my first trip to the woods to decide for sure.

True, but for ME some of the iddy biddy pouches add more bulk, weight, and expense than they give back in organization. Most of their gear focuses on packs starting at 900+ci on up to 8500ci, so if you're wanting a tiny bag (other than the Claymoragnizer) the choices are pretty slim. Still a great company and great products though. I've got an OD Tailgunner 1 and love it. I added the optional shoulder straps and waist belt and it makes a very nice fanny pack.
