Well, it was a separtment store and I saw it in the stationary section(blister packed). It is a basic Wenger with a tiny blade. I got it any way ($10). Thanks for the support!

Been readin these posts and for lands sake someone sell the boy a SAK!I think its admirable a young boy wantin a pocket knife and not a new Nintendo game(not that theres anything wrong with that). This world needs a few more boys with pocket knives and not other stuff like drugs.I hate to hear you live in New York though thats gotta be an oppressive enviroment for knife and gun lovers.

my first blade was a pakistani POS (as sharp as a butter knife) when I was 7. One day, I brought it to school and it got stolen. never had a SAK till I was 30 (couldn't afford it). But had a machete when I was 21 hahaha - for camping. I think every kid/teenager should have a small pocket knife - if I ever have kids (don't think so - they cost too much and I haven't found me mate yet:( ), I'll make sure they all get SAKs when they are 7 and SE Delicas when they are 12. And that they learn how to sharpen them.

Garageboy - I'm glad you have it. Now you need to learn how to sharpen it. SAKs are easy enough to sharpen (cos of the soft steel) with a benchstone. I strop them afterwards so that they shave.

I remember when I was a young boy, many many years ago ! I bought a knife every few weeks at the flea market . I must have been only 12 or 13 if that . I would buy them for like 2.50 . Not really sure what kinda knives they were but I would lose them soon afterwards . But I had fun while I had them. I even remember my first cut :) Again I may have been around 13 and I was pokin holes in a plastic lid , Well a better word would be stabbing ! I got like 4 holes in the lid and the 5 th went right in my poor little hand . It was nasty . But it healed and I Still went out and got my knife when I had the cash!
Back then 2.50 was big cash to me . Times have changed instead of 2.50 I now sometimes spend $250.00 :)

The blade is barely 2"(very slim too), but hey, it's a knife! I'll be getting stones soon!

Why dont you just get a kershaw vapor or a buck 110 ? Or is the sak what you wanted ?

I wanted a Buck 110 (I like Kershaw's Chive too), but here in NYC, they're not goning to sell it to me.

Well theres plenty of places on the web ! Just get a money order and mail it off to a online knife seller ! Just make it neat and write out what you want . Thats what I would do if I was 14 !! You get way better prices online anyways and it would not take long .

There are lots of more expensive, fancier, or "cooler" knives, but a good ole SAK always comes in handy. Congrats on your purchase. Use it sensably and in good health.

Kennieyk- thanks for the tips!
That's a good knife. I prefer the Esquire to the Victorinox Classic. The extra 1/4" in length makes a big difference to me.

First, I'm glad you got (I guess) your first knife. Next someone want to clue me in here as to why a 15 y.o. is having such a hard time buying a freaking pocketknife? Are there laws in N.Y. against this? Please don't be insulted, but when I was 15, I worked as a charter boat mate in Cape May, N.J. I cleaned the party's fish for 50 cents each, and that usually got me an extra $25-40, plus my tip and daily wage of $25 put me at about $100 a day. Now, I couldn't do that without a bunch of knives, and I'm having a real hard time understanding why a teenager is having a hard time buying a Wegner Esquire. In PA, you can hunt with an adult at 12. Presumably, if you're allowed to handle a shotgun or a high powered rifle, you're resposible enough to own a pocketkife for god sakes!?:grumpy:

The law is that anyone under 16 with a knife is considered a juvenile deliquent

Sometime back, there was this thing on the news where a girl with a knife on her nail clipper got charged.
