I found another Schrade knife user

No, not a user knife, a person who uses Schrade in his every day work. I found a 34OT Middleman on the concrete equipment pad of one of my newly built pools. I figured it had to belong to my electrician, Tracy. Sure enough, he claimed it (never keep a Schrade and it's rightful owner apart.. without compensation anyway) the next time I saw him. And he pulled an 897UH stockman out of his pocket to show me his backup EDC. Of course I matched it with one from my pocket, then handed over his middleman. Tracy had no idea that Schrade was no longer in business though. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

I find it very interesting that an electrician, having his choice of Klein and other electrician tools, still reaches for his Schrades every day to help him in his trade. And comforting in a way to know that I am not the only (North)American who works with Schrade.

Anyone else running into folks at the office or jobsite carrying and using Schrades?

Unfortunately, I know few guys who even bother to carry a knife, little lone a Schrade. Most guys I see who carry have multi-tool of some sort, usually a Gerber or L-Man, and usually it has a dull blade. The pocket knives I do see are mostly small cheapies or china made "tacticals", also mostly dull. Seldom do I see a Schrade, Case, or Boker. I'm the only one I know who carries a variety of good pocket knives, and sometimes it gets a little lonely. Funny thing is I live in a fairly rural region that is rich in knife history and manufacturing and most of the guys I hang around are outdoorsmen of one degree or another. One bright spot is a co-worker that I talked into buying a Buck55 as a edc after he broke his old Buck. I tried to talk him into a UH LB5, but he likes Buck's and wanted another, at least its a good knife made in the USA, even if its not a Schrade.

I agree that the traditional Bucks are good knives. I had one of the black phenolic (sp?) handled sheath knives at one time and I really liked it. I have a small version of the "Bucklite" now, but hardly ever carry it. I guess that lifestyles have changed a lot since I was kneehigh to a codger. I remember an old family friend, my hunting mentor after my grandfather died (survivor of Bataan), who gave me a sheath knife. I was just eight at the time, but I think it was a buck. One of the old style leather wrapped type. Can you imagine someone giving a sheath knife to an eight year old now? Most of the people around me here do carry some sort of knife, but like what you see, they are usually a fad knife with some sort of tactical theme, and likely half serrated, and most likely a Tomahawk or other import brand. I make it a point to give some a real knife. A new Schrade.

Working for an electrical contractor, I see alot of the guys carrying all sorts of stuff. One of our foreman had a Schrade LB sheath on his belt. I asked him what he was carrying, and he produced some POS import lockback. :(

The Project Manager that works next door to me doesn't usually carry a knife. But a while back we were talking about knives and how he used to carry in his younger days, but has learned to live without. He was admiring my Schrade walden 3 blade stockman. The next day I brought him in one of his own. ;)

Last year we gave out those Superknifes to all our field guys. Before that, the hot tool was the Husky brand locking utility knife that Home Depot carries.

Occasionally, you will see those cheap giveaway knives floating around. I like to receive them as well, even if they are crap.

The warehouse guys are carrying around a small lockback that was a giveaway from a local distributor. The name on the knife: Colonial (wish I could get a nice giveaway like that, the ones I usually get the manufacturer is written in chinese :D )

Anyways, I'm doing my best to keep the faith here in NH.

I like giving family members and my workers Schrades. My adult son had lost all of the knives I had given him over the years, so last Christmas I gave him a pair of Irish Schrades. He is fond of his Irish heritage, so he was tickled to get those green Irish knives. They were good enough knives for the 1/2 retail I gave for them.

My father in law used to carry a worn out Case, but his EDC since last father's day has been a new Uncle Henry 897UH.

My contracting business partner is a gun fanatic. He won't listen to reason and carries an assortment of crappy S&W knives. He must loose them often, because he seems to have a different one each time he reaches into his pocket. I mean, no one collects them and they surely don't break or wear out that quickly, right?

I haven't presented my two youngest kids with their own knives yet, but whenever they go hunting or fishing, I "loan" them each either a Sharpfinger or a camp knife. They are in line for the real collection some day, but I want them to know knife care and safe handling before I give them a more expensive Schrade of their own.

My son-in-law, who works for me does not carry a knife, though our work requires the use of one nearly daily. His tastes run toward United "art and fantasy" knives, and I refuse to waste a good Schrade on him. He uses one of the Stanley box cutters from my tool box. I did give him a 140OT Trail Boss for catfishing and deer hunting, but it is not exactly an EDC type knife.
