I was moving an old sink out of my dogs room today to give the boy some more space. I had just pulled it off the wall when a pretty good sized huntsman spider ran out from the back of it. When I moved the sink right out I found these in its web. There are 4 old skins, ranging from a pretty wee spider up to the fairly big spider it is just now. I have no idea how long it took to shed all 4 but its pretty cool to see how its progressed.

There was some pretty good teeth on the biggest one so I think I'll put the skins back just in case :p

Normally I prefer not to kill spiders, but if that guy were in my house he'd have been a greasy spot real quick. I wouldn't want to have to worry about it biting me or my dog because I didn't notice it till too late.

The huntsmans are actually good to have about the house, they pick up roaches, ants and things like centipedes that you dont want in the house.
I have seen hundreds of those spiders and only ever been bitten once when I picked it up like an idiot.

Gulp!
Pretty wild. I'll forward this thread link to Phil, I think he likes this sort of thing. :D

I hate spiders, absolutely hate them. I got shivers just looking at the pictures.

I would've probably crapped my pants if I had seen that spider scurry out of its hiding place there.

I can imagine the kind of screams that little terror would elicit from my wife. She screams if something reminds her of a spider. Good thing she wasn't in the basement when I found the desicated remains of a rather large house centipede among the untold generations of spider skins and defuct webs.

KEWL!  Those are some of the best to have around. We've got a menagerie here, and I've warned everyone who comes here to leave my spiders alone. I kill Black widows & cellar spiders without mercy, but all the others I leave alone. Between the spiders & praying mantises, we don't have much of a bug problem most of the time.

thx - cpr

I sometimes wisk spiders outside, other times I smash them. Black Widows I work with all day long, and they are pretty shy. In landscape irrigation, they are in every valve box and timer cabinet I open. It is a little heeby jeeby, but I got over it, and now, just keep an eye out. If it runs and hides, I leave it alone. If I ever saw a brown recluse, I would make great effort to rid the world of those. Seen a couple of results of the bite of that one, and it is nasty to say the least. A cock roach killer is good for sure.

Thanks for the photo's, they are amazing.

I welcome Huntsmen spiders in the house as they really do a good job eradicating pests.

I will not allow any harmless spiders to be killed in my house and its good to see many others of similar ilk.

Im glad to see not everyone runs screaming from a good sized huntsman :)

I have had more than one house guest get quite a fright when they go to
get a drink or take a piss in the middle of the night :D

I go to the effort of pointing out to any guests staying over where the spider is when they arrive and tell them I expect it to be still alive when they leave.

Kinda like "love me, love my dogs, and love my spiders too!" ;)

Saw a television program last night about dangerous animals in Brazil and if the average person believed it all, they would be too scared to venture outdoors. Slightly overdone but interesting anyway. They showed a "Wandering spider" that is supposed to be the most venomous spider and grows to 5 inches across, that would command my attention! Spiders are not my favorite and even though I know they are good to have around, I tend to throw them out of the house if I can catch them.

Hey, that's pretty neat, but creepy at the same time. I hate spiders, but appreciate what they do for me, so I'll often just leave them be if they're hanging around the house. However, if they so much as dare enter my bedroom, they're toast. Flyswatters work just as well on flies as they do on spiders.

Same story for Australia; if one went on media reports of the dangers of their deadly creppy crawlies, killer jelly fish, poisonous snakes and man-eating sharks and crocodiles there would be few Aussie's and even fewer tourists who survive an outback holiday.:p :D

I HATE Spiders. That SOB would have been dead if I'd seen it!!!!!!!

I'm with him!!! I know nature is amazing and all, but if there is ONE thing that I hate in this world, it's spiders!!! I think something traumatic happened to me as a young 'un, because I'd rather wrestle an aligator than kill a wee little spider on the bathroom floor!!!!

cool pics, but i think i might freak a little if that was in my house.

true, spiders are our friends. but in my house, especially in my room, and they're gonna get flushed.

in the garage or outside i normally leave them be.
