I go there once or twice a week lurking for steel for my projects and I found this almost pristine Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife.

I believe it is a post WWII edition because it is in such a good condition, the sheath was no where to be found.

It is stamped on the back of the guard one side "Imperial Gudedge Cutlery Co" and on the other side "Made in Sheffield England" no other characteristic marks found on the knife.

here`s a couples of pics.

Can someone give an proximate age of this knife ?

Thanks all.

I don't know, but it looks pretty modern and made of a black coated stainless steel.
I don't think it's more than 30 years old.

Not much is known about Imperial Gudedge, but they are a post WWII knife. From what I've seen they look like they were an importer or retailer, rather than a maker. The name shows up on German, as well as English patterns from the 60's - early 80's or so.

still a cool find condition looks great. I found a german scout knife made by Othello at a second hand store for 5.00 that's the closest ive gotten to finding one for free.

Great find!! Leather sheaths out of Sheffield have been substandard for quite awhile, as in no rivets, very thin or faux leather, so you’re not missing much.

Thanks all.
I knew it was not a treasure but still a great addition to my collection. It`s true that i could not find much on Imperial Gudedge.
The knife i have is a flat grind and it has exactly those stamps. thanks to GIRLYman

Did they do different models because the knife i have does not look like this one at all and it does not look like any Imperial Gudedge i have found on the web. The one i have is exactly like the Reginald Cooper but it has the above stamps

There are three basic wartime british commando knife patterns.

Namely the first, second and yours, being the third pattern.

Gudedge (pronounced as Goodedge) is something I know nothing of.
It is likely meant for the commercial market rather than a military spec item.
I did spot an auction picture of it paired with an aluminium chapel sheath.

Wish I could be of more help, but it's a dead end at this present time.

Thanks for your time. the info you provided was overwhelming and it was a great fun to read.
i'm not very into combat knives, normally i don't care much for them but i was curious to have more insight on it and at the same time learned a lot about Fairbairn's knives.
