Well Christmas came around and I received a few gift cards to SMKW. While I believe their prices are high I ended up with a 25% off coupon so I ordered a BK9. To my surprise it came with a Remora. Boy is it tiny, but it was a nice plus to the order. Maybe I can get out and try it this weekend. I will post up some pics when the little man goes to bed. Thanks for the recommendation guys this thing fits my hand great. Moose I also ordered two of the rough rider fire steels and a Mora Bushcraft Triflex, both based on your previous posts. They seem like a great products a fair price. :)

Yes, they are a little high, I must admit. The do B&M prices on the net. You can't buy anything in the store or online for a different price. I have the luxury of only having to pay tax on it and not shipping.

Cool your 9 came with a Remora. Count yourself lucky, they are getting rarer and rarer. Awesome.

The Rough Rider is a pretty cool firesteel, to me it seems like a blend of the LMF and the Goingear firesteels. Be sure and break it in when you get it, LOL.

Ah, the Mora Triflex. WOW, that is a real cool knife. It weighs nearly nothing, cuts like a diamond laser, and is pretty tough, not Becker tough, but pretty tough as Moras go. And they are solid knives. Remember, the polishing process creates a build up of different HT'd material on the edge, so you will want to sharpen it to clear away the softened steel. I thought that was a myth, until I got mine, sharp as hell, but cut some Red Oak with it and it dulled up pretty quick, I was confused about the "Mythical Mora Sharpness". 2 sharpenings later, I can cut for as long as I want in hickory and that thing will still cut a hair in the middle, still attached to my arm. WOW, those Moras are badass.

Good haul, post up some pics when you get a chance.

Congrats on the new knife!!!

but you guys think that SMKW are expensive? I've been buying knives there for a long time now and I always thought they were relatively cheap. Don't mean to hijack, just wanted to ask.

From what I've read, that seems to me an issue with most of the Scandanavian knife companies. I've read of the same issues with Mora, EKA, Helle, etc. Moose is right on though. Once you get to the "good" steel, they will cut for forever and day.

I have to say I like the feel of this knife. And the Remora just needed a bit of a finger extender so I tied a small knot of paracord on it to give it a better feel. How does the China version match up to the USA version?

Today's haul.

Oh, very knife haul indeed. Those strikers with the RR firesteels are truly junk. To get them to work, you need to lay the striker almost flat, with the teeth down, and rake it. Take some practice, my BK14 drops "poppin" gobs with them though. Maybe you should get a BK14 as a striker:D

Thats why I took it off the one I threw in the sheath with the BK9. I am going to file a nice striker on the back of the BK13:)
