Never quite understood all the raves over the old-school Ratweiler until I finally grabbed one with the older (and IMO nicer) rounded slabs. Wow, what a difference.

Good snag. I think most people that have had both prefer the original-run RWs to the 2nd run. Not just for looks, but they do seem to feel better.
I've got one of each, and the only slight advantage the 2nd run one has is that the micarta comes up closer to the thumb ramp point (on mine, at least) and supports the palm a little better when the index finger is in the choil. This would only matter when applying a good bit of downward force or with extended use in that position. It's minor, but I've noticed it.

That being said, I would still gladly trade someone my 2nd run for their first run. :D (Not a trade offer, just making a point...)

Nice snag bro...

There s something about the old line RW (and RD) that just fits me like a glove...

Never held one in person, but visually, the Ratweiler is one of the most appealing to me.

Yeah, I now have the RW, RM, and RD all with the old line scales.

Got a Spec-Ops inbound for this new Ratweiler.

How about this one????

Nah, but I bet Dan at Semper Paratus could put one together

Wow, a NIB RW. Great catch. Mine after being chewed a bit now looks beautiful stripped and polished with one of Martin's great sheaths, will have to post pics.

Would like to see the stripped RW. I've battered and banged on this one, and the coating has actually chipped in a few places, so I'm thinking of just stripping it.

Stomper stripped and polished this one, and then let it go at a great price. The others are gone, but I have since scored a Rat Mastiff ( thanks, Chuck!)

Stripped mine today. It looks almost blued underneath. The stripper seemed to cause just a bit of surface oxidation, but it mostly wiped off with some CLP. I'll hit it with a little Flitz (when I can find my tube), and it'll be gone.

I think I'm just going to leave it like this and beat it. Very cool looking--kind of like a blued double cut finish or something. I love that exposed hamon.

After a few whacks on some pressure treated wood...

Guy, that polished one is nice. After I whip on this one a while, I might try to do some polishing.

Turned into a nice rig. I molded the kydex insert today, and I added a Leatherman Wave, a fire steel and some fire straws to the pouch.
