I picked up my first high end pen yesterday. A Paradise Pen Co. model 5280 Summit in Carbon Fiber. It's my first fountain pen and the carbon fiber is absolutely gorgeous. The cap is magnetic, stays on either end rather well. Writes incredibly smoothly.

Very cool! You know there's no going back now...;)

Oh pens. I found a neat looking one while I was out and about a year ago. I just found it in my room and noticed a brand "waterman" Huh. Decided to look it up turns out they go for $120. I am a lucky man

Ain't that the truth. Next stop Mont Blanc and the poor house!

Do yourself a favor and look around a bit before you pull the trigger on a Montblanc. While they make some good pens they have IMO relied far too much on their name and reputation over the last several years. You can buy better pens for less money if you do some research.

That looks pretty cool with carbon fiber. Does anyone know who made the nib? Is it stainless or gold? From their website, it looks like a cartridge/converter pen, is the converter quality or does it look like it won't last long? Their website doesn't seem to have much information about this pen.

Has anyone compared this to other high end pens for writing behavior?

BlackHills is right. MB charges a premium for the name. I'm partial to Pelikan and Sailor, make sure you check them out.

As a pen maker and collector, I might reccomend visconti homosapiens, pelikan m800, parker duofold, parker premier, and the pelikan ductus. just my .02 but MB makes pens out of plastic and words it as "Black precious resin." I have a MB 149 and use it ever so rarely because the rest are just that much better IMHO.

I agree on holding up on the Montblanc. There are some very beautiful, excellent writers that can be had for much less money. If I may aid and abet your blossoming addiction, I think a Lamy 2000 would look excellent next to that pen - it's sleek in a Cold War, West German Bauhaus type style. Tough as nails and a wonderful writer.

Nice pen! Had a Mont Blanc for about 2 years, then it was stolen. Miss that pen alot!

Been looking at getting one of the Tuffwriters for EDC.

Blake.
