Hi, per title, bought this knife, with combo edge, but I have a couple of questions. Please excuse my lack of knowledge.. this is my first post here!

1. What's with the 1st Generation thingy... I know that this was made for Blue Ridge Knives, hence the BRK.. but is there any other special meaning attached to it, or is the knife therefore made differently or something like that?

2. The steel used is 440A. How well does this hold up to normal daily usage like cutting of cardboard boxes and tasks around the office.. what about corrosion or rusting, will it be an issue, since 440A is pretty low down the steel scale.

3. I noticed many different versions of the Native, but most of them are made with higher grade steel. Why is this particular one made with only 440A?

4. Where is this Native made? US? Japan? Where??

Basically can anyone tell me more about this particular Native??

Thanks...

I have an entire page on my website devoted to explaining the BRK 1st Generation Native. Here's a direct link to that page...

As for 440A itself, I'd say it will hold an edge about as well as a Swiss Army Knife, perhaps a bit better. The good news is it takes an excellent edge very easily too. Far a rust resistance goes, there is no relationship between it and edge holding. Most cheap kitchen cutlery is quite rust resistant, moreso that some better knife steels. Have a BRK Native in my desk at work as a loaner. Has been there over two years, received no care other than being washed a few times after use on food, and has never shown a sign of rust.

Not really, aside from making it a bit more difficult to sharpen than the plain edge version, but that's universal.
