Hey everyone! A local army surplus store was going out of business, so I went in on the last day, bought a German combat flecktarn uniform, and on my way out I spotted a very holy artifact. Buried in the free pile, There was a KATANA. The thing is a total of three feet long, and initial guess for the steel is either very high carbon stainless, or high carbon steel, most likely the latter because I had to remove some rust.It has no blade, just a rolled edge, probably for martial arts and/or exercise (my guess atleast!).

do you have a picture of the blade and tsuka?

Is this what your wanting? :) It has a rat tail tang unfortunately, which I am making plans to replace. The blade is interestingly made out of high carbon steel, but the rat tail tang replaced the other one so the previous owner could put a custom handle on it. outrageous!

Preposterous! You gonna weld on a thick tang?

I think he said that somebody removed the original tang and replaced that with a rat tail tang so they could add a "custom handle" on it! MY GOD THE ABSOLUTE GALL!

I had that thought too, but I think those swords had bo-hi and some characters etched on the blades. This one may be a knock off of those. The hamon looks etched and I think it more likely that the sword was made with a rat tail tang than someone ground down a nakago to put on any sort of cheap handle associated with a rat tail tang. Still, it's hard to beat it at the price... :)
