Hahahaha I hope I don't get banned for the title!

:D

I won a very nice Kukri on ebay, the seller threw in a mini called a Biltong.

He said the Large kuk was from KhukuriHouse. The thing is... I can't find any blades on thier site that match it.

The SWORD of SHIVA is ========> not --------------- It has DUI? Chirra (3 fullers) that are even. The handle is horn and the blade is hair cutting sharp and mirror polished. The Scabbard is of high Quality but the Frog is NOT military style. The Pommel is brass with a Diamond shaped cap where the tang was hammered. Blade is 11" Overall is 16"

Pics Below!

I'd like to see a picture, you sure made it sound exciting. Man! Your happiness is contagious. It could be an HI, but we'll see. Keener, more knowledgable eyes than mine will weigh in. Glad you came by, Azsoldier.

The guys here are very knowledgable about khuks in general...not just H.I.
Post a pic and they'll have it id'ed in a heart beat.

It looks scratched in the pic but it is really nice. Damn flash photography!

Help me out Forumites!

I cant see any reason to doubt it being Lalits Khukuri house.

It looks like thier wooden handled Angkhola to me.

As kukri are hand made not evry variation will be on thier website.

I thought it looked like an AK too, but the guy had it advertised as a Panawal Gurkha Knife, under religious items.

$5 for the AK and $5 offline sale on the Biltong, $12 shipping.

I think he took a loss.:D

I can't imagine HI being even better quality. As it is the blade is so nice I can't imagine cutting anything harder than a banana with it. Chopping wood with it seems sacreligious!! Like catching someone using thier M16 for a tent pole or a crutch. Digging with it? I think I would faint or something! I have a real and true respect for fine weapons. I am a soldier. To me this is a weapon, not a hatchet, not a shovel, not a SPATULA! I would love to get a Jungle AK or something and really funk it up but alas I have no money for extra khukurae (Latin Plural of Khukuri :))

Does the Pommel seem consistant with KH? I know its not NKH, they mark thier blades. I know it can't be a current production HI, they mark thier blades also. I was hoping it might be OLD HI. This blade has NO company or Kami marks anywhere.

What is thier warranty? Anyone have a link to a review?

Thanks for the help, and yes I am very excited to own a Fine khukuri regardless of who made it.

I think it's a KH. You got a good deal. The panawal is a a flat tanged model with the slabs of horn or wood held on with 2 big rivets. Yours is a standard tang, with the tang running through a hole in the handle, riveted on the butt. It should serve you well. Welcome

Steve

That's a KH. That rolled brass butt-cap isn't a style I have seen from HI or any of the other big ones...

As for the HI khuks being nicer... yeah, I would have to say so. Saying more than that could get me in twobel, so...

PM me and I will give you a good link to check out.

Actually, I was thinking it could be a shop l HI. They had the rolled buttcap.
Some of the oldest members might know if this is true.

I think HI shop1 was actualy Lalits khukri house? but with more quality control?

Thats my understanding of how it worked. But of course I may be missing something.

That would make sense. So we're both right. If you've the right house, the right name, then I think we've come together on this one.

They were made to a completely different standard, were very much different from whatever else that shop was doing.
Yangdu would know, huh?

munk

I wondered about that; I didn't know if all the Shop1 HI khuks had 'scrowled' buttcaps or not, the ones I've seen all did, but that didn't definitively answer the question. Now it's answered.

Nice looking khuk. It sounds like you got a great deat too!
Congratulations. Now go out and chop something with it and see what that little demon can do!;)

ArchAngel, I did just that and DAMN!
I conducted the basic failure test. I wacked the hell out of the spine, sides, and 90degree edge. It survived.
Then...

I chopped up some Pine 2x4. Easily. Very good at chopping wood. The I split some. I figured the blade might be a lil duller by then right? WRONG. With the sweet spot I could shave paper thin chips from the fragments of 2x4. No edge deformation or even any degree of dulling. 20 mins chopping pine. I'm in love!

So what did we determine about my khukuri? It seemed a lil unclear to me as I don't know the stories. I take what was said to mean that Lalit used to be HI but parted ways and started fresh. What kind of warranty does KH offer? 2 for 1 if you break it like Uncle Bill?

Old HI, KH, or hybrid.

I am sure Yangdu would know the ins & outs of it more than I would Munk. I have read it on this forum in the past & its how its refered to in Nepal by people in the trade.

As you say I am sure Hi were contracted to a different set of specs, requirments & quality control.{Hence the scrolled buttcap as Yvsa points out, I guess.}

Lalits Kukri house was the main Nepali kukri firm at one time , Then HI built thier own place Birgorkha or shop 2.

NKH was also set up by Tilak an ex. Lalit K H employee as well.

KH wont offer a 2 for 1 warranty Azsoldier, normaly not even 1 for 1.

Very, very pretty. Of course, if one looked like that, I would be hesitant to take it out and destroy things with it...

Then again. Maybe not.
