I got a knife compliment

The other day, a co-worker and a vendor’s rep were boxing up a piece of equipment to be sent back to the factory for repair. The co-worker asks me if I have a box cutter. I thought for a minute and then handed him my knife and told him not to chip any concrete with it. He and the vendor’s rep used it to slice and dice a fair amount of cardboard and rigid foam packing material. As they were finishing, I walked over and the vendor’s rep says to me “That’s a helluva knife.” Turns out that the rep is an avid bow hunter has a modest knife collection of his own and really appreciated that my knife was sharp and held up through all the cutting. It absolutely made my day to have someone appreciate my knife. Perhaps others have had similar positive experiences.

The knife is a Benchmade mini AFCK w/plain ATS-34 blade and the BT-2 coating.

I do get the occasional compliment. Plenty of people have said how elegant my customized (Frank Recupero) ironwood 710 looks. I've also received positive comments about the looks of my Darrel Ralph Madd Maxx 4" and my anodized (Charles Gedraitis) Camillus Aftermath.

My most recent knife compliment was from a register clerk at PetsMart. She was struggling with some strapping tape. I asked if she'd like me to cut it for her and she said yes. I drew my Günter Böhlke Ironfinger from its belt sheath, neatly severed the tape, and resheathed it, all quickly and smoothly. She said "that's really handy!" and asked if she could examine it. :D

Yes, this is all minor stuff, but it is nice when people appreciate our objects of obsession. :)

I got a compliment from one of the moms at the pumpkin carving party I went to right before halloween. I was using my Craig Camerer stag handled bird and trout knife.
