today i got away with one.

while on the phone with my lady (i have a hands free set), i was lazily testing the edge on my new M43 on a thick rod of hickory. you know, just tapping the khukuri on the piece of wood. not really thinking, just mindlessly playing around.

well, in my brainless stupidity, i missed the dowel of wood and struck my hand.

had i been toying around with a heavier khukuri, or was using more force, i probably would have nearly amputated my left index finger.

i got away lucky with a small, shallow cut. i consider myself a pretty responsible person, but not today.

yep, stupid. stupid stupid stupid.

Not as stupid as going to sleep with one in your hands and dropping it on your feet. Had 5 stitches in a toe, but could've been much, much worse.
We've all done stupid stuff with our knives and if we haven't yet we will. Murphy's law is just like Karma and will catch up eventually. :p  :D ;)

I didn't think I was being careless and it still cost me a fair cut on the meaty part of my left thumb. Before that and since there have be numerous cuts that I didn't even know I had till red stuff is running some where.:)

yep, stupid. stupid stupid stupid.

Not to mention lucky, lucky, lucky! :p ;) Glad to hear you're OK, that could have been bad! I shudder to think of what an accidental chop from a khuk would do.

Imagine missing a log and catching your shin !!!

HOOOWWWWWWLLLLL !!!!

Glad your ok mate, you must be a Gorkha (khuk's needing blood and all that !!(

Hell, man...Super Glue, Duck tape, and Popsicle sticks gotta save me about 5K a year in medical bills!

My wife and my friends swear up and down I heal unnaturally quickly from cuts, just because my body had to adapt to my stupidity.

Glad to hear all yer digits stayed attached! (if they become unattached I'm told that even Super Glue wouldn't help that, although I'd still try it anyways)
:D

T'was but a scratch, a wee bitty flesh wound. Don't feel bad, a buddy of mine suffered a far more ludicrous mishap with a knife. I'd given him a Gerber Mark1 that I'd honed up like a dadgummed scalpel. He was lying flat on his back on his bed, talking to his girlfriend on the phone, all the while idly twirling this evil little dagger in his hand. Naturally he slipped. Naturally it landed point first and near vertical, burying itself in the left pectoral muscle of his chest. Good thing he had his girlfriend already on the phone, as she had to come drive him to the ER. Docs were amazed at the keenness of that blade, said if it had'nt struck a rib bone and stopped, it'd probably have killed him. Ain't nothing that bad if you can laugh about it over beers later.

thanks all.

i really don't plan on making any second mistakes anytime soon. i consider this event as

"you got one, and that's all your getting"

fair enough for me!

yikes! dropping a khukuri on your foot? glad your okay!

I used to have both Mark I and II. Those things get incredibly sharp. I wish I had a buck for every time I missed my sheath and slid my Mark II down along my ass:eek:

pics of my m43?

or pics of my insignificant cut?

Man, the cutlery I worked at had MAGNETS holding all the knives up. Every time you bumped the wall your instinct is to reach out and grab the falling objects.

Oh yeah and I christened my new Microtech D/A by closing it on my finger today. Whao now that was a bleeder. :D

...and stupid :footinmou
