Heartfelt blessings to you! 58 years old not long ago, and I did it too.
Very difficult to confirm being a 'free-thinker' without having seen and experienced the rituals and pageantry from the other side of the fence. I too underwent the rites of baptism, via the Roman Catholic Church, one and a half years ago. For me it was uplifting to experience a lot of genuinely caring parishioners rejoice in witnessing 'a pail of water' being ceremonially thrown over my head. Religion is many things to many people not least of which is admitting to formally identifying with a specific group.
And yet I still retain the unshakeable belief that "we" belong only to the 'family of man' and that G.O.D. may in fact be a western civilization acronym towards attaining the greater good: 'Meaning Of Life'.
