Hi, all, new guy here. Have owned Knives all my life, but only recently learned how to sharpen properly. I remember my old dad telling me about the "burr", but I didn't really get it right till I read a few threads here. What helped me the most was getting a 10x magnifier so that I could actually see the edge, (or lack of one). Some of my knives were pretty rough, but they are ok now. sure is a satisfying feeling finally being able to get a decent edge on them.

It is always pretty excited to make sharp knife by youself. I remember first time I shave some hairs with blade I just sharpened - it was like shock to me, deepest level of being impressed by myself! It was like five years ago and now I just recently experience similar shock when finally split the hair...

Congratulation! And Welcome to the forum!

Thanks, Vassili.

Yes, congrats! I still remeber when I couldn't get knives to shave. Now, that you can get things to shave, you will strive to get them even sharper!

Welcome Ryan! As Nozh inferred and ChineseMan said, there's no end to the quest.

When my knives get so sharp as to reflect sunlight from the glinting of the edge, and said sharpened sunlight is redirected with such precision as to make me bleed from 50 paces, I will continue in my endeavor to find the edge that can, on its own, create a black hole....sucking both light and sharpness into its limitless depth. (uh...how will I ever get close enough to the knife to pic.....ahem, I'll cross that bridge when I reach it!) right now I'm just trying to get them sharp enough to cut some baked potatos.... ((( :D )))
