My BM 42 came today. I have in front of me 2 books by Jeff Imada. I will read the "The Balisong Manual" first.

Any advice for me??????????????

I am sooooooooooo excited, I ordered this knife around early January. Finally got it.

What should I do???????????

Please, give a newbie at this some advice.

Ciao!

Wow... You must either have a lot of money, or a burning desire to learn the Balisong. (Or both...)

Either way, congradulations on your new purchases. If you find you need video demonstrations of some of those manipulations you can find some downloadable ones at www.balisongxtreme.com

I hope you enjoy your new 42 and the painful days that follow.(Only until you get the hang of it of course

Good. Welcome to the club. "The One" was right. www.balisongxtreme.com is head over heels better than those books (I have them both too). Ok, there good primers. Good Luck

Advise for a "newbie" Hmmmmm?

#1: aggressive patience. (all good things take time)!

#2: enjoy the art by sight and sound. (let it fill your heart with peace and not anger)!

#3: go to ebay.com and outbid Blade420 on every single butterfly knife that he/she is bidding on at the moment!

(just kidding)

These knives are fun. They are art worthy once you surpass the stagnant stage.

In the video, "Surviving a Street Knife Attack", "Animal" had an assistant who did the "Balisong Boogie".

That was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! Is there anyone on here who could do that?

could you tell us more about what the boogie is? I haven't seen that yet!

It was really cool. This guy, who is rather large I might add, has a Balisong in his right hand and is just swinging it left/right and up down, really fast. You cant even see what he is doing. That is what Marc called the "Balisong Boogie"

Probably just some jackass that grabbed the safe handle and started flailing. My cousin does this and while the uninformed think it cool, I know it's pretty useless.

I don't know about that. This guy seemed to know what he was doing, and Marc seemed to think so anyway.

Maybe Marc can comment on it himself. I know he is on this forum.

Thank you for the input Lundo! Good luck in your indeavors of the Balisong.

Re: the Bali Song boogie, as performed by Animal's partner in that video. I believe the guy's name was Richard Dobson and he was a co-producer of the video. As I understand it, Dobson's "boogie" was just a series of back-to-back demonstrations of the different ways to open the bali quickly. When strung together, these opening and closing sequences give the appearance of being a "routine," ie the name Bali Song Boogie. As was made evident during the course of that excellent video, How to Survive a Knife Fight, and its companion volume, How to Win a Knife Fight, Mr. Dobson is a skilled martial artist.
