I got my Jaguar balisong this aftersoon - I am SOOOOOO excited!!! I have already fell in love with this beautiful blade.

I am now trying all the cool tricks on www.balisongxtreme.com. Yay!!!

Only 2 problems though:
1) I tried putting tape on my blade, but now I can't open or close it :(
2) The latch keeps getting in the way of the blade, and it is stopping me from doing the tricks.

I am not sure if this is usual or not, but my balisong feels kind of loose where the blade is attached, and it feels like it slips when I am opening the blade.

Congradulations!

If taping the blade doesn't let it open, use thicker tape (3M electricians tape) and trim it down so it just covers the blade and tip.

The latch is just one of those things that you have to get used too, or remove it entirely.

It might feel loose because the pins they use are crap. You will eventually have to repin it, with 6 penny finishing nails, and they work al lot better.

Have fun, and welcome to the club.

Have fun with it..., the latch won't cause you problems for long. You just have to get used to it...and soon you won't even think about it much. Of course you can get rid of the latch if you want, but ehere are lots of cool things you can do even when starting out...that do incorporate the latch.., so I think I'd leave it on and just get the feel for it.

I guess just start out with the basic horizontal and vertical openings. After that I learned a few of the backhand openings.

Oh yeah, that latch drop is cool too, its a quick way to get your bali open and into the backhand position.

As always, Clay's Site is the place to be.

Start small and do the hand exercises on the site. A finger twirl looks a lot cooler when you fingers can get that puppy going quick.

Just remember that once you think you've learned a move (like the horizontal opening), don't stop doing it. I'm pretty sure I've got every move down from balisongxtreme.com, but I still do the horizontal opening every day.

I'm one of those that doesn't believe in taping the blade, so I don't really have any tips there. Just don't become too used to hitting the edge and not getting cut. It'll only result in major gashes once you do take the tape off. Have fun man!
