I got my 42s and I love it! Its so lighter compared to my jaguar. I love the look and feel of it. The latches actually work unlike my jag. I really like the quietness while I'm manipulating it. The latch gate is a big plus to the whole thing. This is so great. I have one question thought, did any of you guys get any papers in the benchmade box? I did not. I would also like to know if something ever happend to it, how would I go about using the warranty, would all I have to do is send in the bali itself?

There is supposed to be paperwork in the box. The warranty card, etc. I don't think BM ever checks up on them though. If you ever have any problems, just email Angie and explain your situation to her to make sure it is fixable, on occasion something isn't, then send it in and they will take good care of ya.

It was my jag that fell of my desk. The handles on my jag are pretty hard, Its difficult to fix it clays way.

Not sure what dropping it has to do with the tight handle, but there are a couple things you can try.
First, lube it up. Pretty self explanitory.
Second, if you have a torx set, you can try to loosen the screw just a tiny bit, that might relieve some pressure and make it flip smoother.

DAMMIT!!!

OH how I want one so bad! You guys always say how much better it is, and how you wont know the feeling until I hold one. sheesh. still trying to find one...

congratulations!
you'll never be able to go back

and you really have to hold one to fully understand how great it is. they're so damn light compared to jags and they feel sooooooo solid.

As I make this post I have two of the BM42 resting in one of Clay's BXC inverted V's on my back side.

You're just getting started ole boy! (mean that most kindly)! I really like these models. Just watch for the tip!

Congrats, i just got mine yesterday evening and this thing surpasses everything I've read about them (although it did come dull).

Everyone is so right on. There really is no match for a BM42.

chaozu:

if you are still seriously thinking about getting one, try this:

http://www.bladeauction.com/cgi-bin/osa/ViewPage.cgi?templateName=item_form.htx&itemNumber=547874. It's a dutch auction(he has many) so bid on one and you are almost guaranteed one, unless all 12 are sold, then it's first come first serve. But only make the minimum bid ($124.99). Enjoy!

I got mine today.

I love it, I had my first POS Bali when I was about 7yrs old and I have always wanted to learn them but the quality I have seen has never really lent it's self as practical to me. Up until today all I had was a Rosfrei which was falling apart with only a little practice.

Now that I have the 42, I see a long and life together. I wanted to start this off right so I picked up Imada's advanced manual. This one looked like it had more info on actuals moves. I also picked up a movie, hopefully it will be here today as well.

I have a question about my new 42AS. The serrations, mine are all concave more like Spydercos serration pattern than the annoying concave/convex pattern normally seen in BM's. Are all 42s's like that?

Hey, how bad are the Rostfrei Balis. I had a 4 inch mini brass phillipine bali until I got my cheap china thin handled 7 hole one, but I just got my first decent quality bali yesterday, a chrome Wave rostfrei blade balisong. Just how delicate are these, I keep hearing about falling apart after little practice, I don't want mine to fly in someones face while im practicing.

Then get a 42! Those wave bali's aren't any better. It's hard to explain...you kind of have to see for yourself. Wait until your new wave bali wears out. By that I don't mean that you've used the blade so much that it's time for another one. Infact, I wonder if anyone on this forum has had the handles and pins out-live their blade. Anyway, then you'll say to yourself, "Hmm, this thing wore out pretty fast. Now it's time for another one. Well what should I get? Oh, wow, those jags are around $20. Compared to the $8 I spent on the wave bali, this thing should be much better; it's 2.5 times the price." Then you get that and you'll see a small difference that will satisfy you for a little while. But the jag you bought, say 2 months ago, is starting to develop a seriously cr@ppy lock-up and the blade is wobbling side to side a lot more than you remember when you first bought it. So now you're in a bind... Now you are looking at the 42 and thinking, "Are you @#^$%ing kidding me? That's 5 times the price. I paid 2.5 times what the wave cost to get the jag and that certainly wasn't 2.5 times better in quality. I don't know about this $115 price tag...for a knife no less."

It is 5 times better! I've done exactly this in the past. Learn from my mistakes. I'm sure a lot of other people will tell you that sounds similar to how they got into knives or any other hobby for that matter. I hate to give BM free advertising, but I would rather one BM 42 than 10 jags.

By the way, I know some of you guys are going to say that you can find a 42 for less...I was generally speaking!

GreenDestiny, the waved 'Rostfrei' bali you are asking about is crap; it's really not worth it. The handles are light (in a more negative than positive 'bm42' way), and the caps for the pins always come off.

GreenDestiny, Kent,

I got also cheap wave Rostfrei (and also the dragon carved handle), but back in 1992/3 something .. it stays with me till now. From the look at Knifezilla, it seems to be the same 'crap'. I agree it is a crap, compared with my PC International Series... but it stays with me, the pin is still there.

It develops wobble, but with some hammering (see Clay's tip) it stopped wobbling. The handles are heavier than the China cheapies (because it is thicker) and good for the latch drop exercise.

I managed to sharpen it shaving sharp, but the steel doesn't hold up very long, so steeling and re-sharpening is more often required. However, it serve well for day-to-day carry and I didn't mind losing it (I mind now, given that they don't import it anymore only those China's)

By the way, anyone has a Korean butterfly? Not the kamikaze (see Advanced Balisong Manual book) but the skeletonized version. The tang stamp is clear: Stainless Steel Korea. The blade is truly .125 thick, unlike the wave cheapy which is only like .100 or less? Not sure if the blade material is the same as the wave ones...
