Wow this knife is AWESOME!

I got it 2 days ago (thanks ;)) and I can already say it is my PERMANENT, FAVORITE folder!!!

This thing is so solid! It feels like a rock or something in your hand. A very sharp rock. This knife came supernaturally sharp. Its scary. Anyways...

These are the things that I love about the 520:
A. The handle:
1. I love the shape. Its just so...perfect looking.
2. The scales. This is my first knife with Al scales, but I love it. It feels so solid and good. I love the bidirectional treading, it makes an extremely secure grip even more secure. It's thick. I love how everything is black, it looks cool :D. I love how the area around the AXIS lock thingy is recessed, it makes it real easy to grab hold of the thingy and operate it. One thing I don't like about the new Benchmades is the new finish on their pocket clips. I just don't like it, its too smooth or something and doesnt take a cool finish. To remedy this I swapped out the clip from my 806D2 and replaced the 520's clip. Much better.
3. It has a lanyard hole!

B. The blade:
1. It is a drop point, my favorite blade shape. And to date it is my favorite execution of a drop point shape.
2. The way it comes out of the handle just looks so cool and seems so perfect.
3. The blade has plenty of belly for good utility use, and it is pointy enough that you can...poke things.
4. I can legally carry it where I live. The blade is 3.42" long, and the limit in Seattle is 3.5"
5. The blade seems thick enough that it is pretty beastly, while at the same time slim enough that it makes an incredibly scary slicer.
6. It is S30V steel! I have always wanted a knife in S30V steel, and I finally have one. I love the satin finish that the steel takes, and it is an excellent cutter. The 520A has S30V steel versus the normal 520's 154CM steel (still an incredibly good steel). This is what makes the 520A extra special (only 300 were made)!!!
7. I like the thumbstuds.
8. Bronze washers!!! Very smooth action.

C. It's a Benchmade
and because of that...
1. It has an AXIS lock. The lock in the 520 also feels more smooth and springy or something. I like that.
2. It's designer is Mel Pardue. I like his designs.
3. It has the excellent Lifesharp warranty. Very nice, backed by the excellent folks at Benchmade.

So ya, thats why I like it. I have to go eat lunch now, so this was sorta rushed. I think I got everything, but I will add more later if I missed anything, and I will be glad to answer any questions.

Just like to point out one thing I have noticed, is that it seems impossible to do the Brownie pop with the 520. The indent thingy on the tang that holds the blade in when closed must be a lot deeper. It's also harder to flick open by pulling back the AXIS lock compared to my 806D2 or my Griptilians.

Yes it really is harder to flic it open, right.

I am talking the 154CM version but thats not the thing here.

What about your beloved 806D2 if 3.5" is only allowed where you live?

I like to add to your description: It looks much more cooler in the pocket than a 806. Hard to say but true.

I actually find mine not that bad to flick open. Takes a little more practice, but I can do it.

It helps if you yank your hand backwards a little more as the blade comes forward.

The best slicer I've ever had short of a kitchen knife.

Love it.

I still love my 806D2, don't worry. I don't mind carrying a knife over the legal limit, but it's just the fact that it's legal that makes it that much sweeter.

Pics? I've never seen the CPMS30 version

It looks the exact same.

I suspect that their gone just as fast as we found out about them. (If they only made 300 it's no surprise.) It looks like American Heritage Sports had them at one time, but I can't find anyone on the web that still has them.

Too bad Benchmade doesn't make more of their knives in S30V.
