I received my first custom knife from maker Günter Böhlke today.

It´s a small drop point blade (440 C) and I´m going to put a paracord wrap on it. I designed it and Günter improved my pattern using his experience.

I´m sorry...I got no pics, guys.

But what I wanted to tell you ain´t so much about this knife in particular, but about my knife buying habits in general.

I like this knife very much, although it should be a simple EDC fixed blade. This one definitely changed my buying habits.
I think the vast mahority of the fixed blades I´m going to buy from now one will be customs. My second custom knife will be on order soon.

My point is this:
It´s an incredible feeling to own a one-of-a-kind handmade knife, patterned after my own design.

Don´t you love this feeling when you are handling one of the customs you designed yourself (with the maker´s help)?

Congrats and welcome to the madness, QuietStorm.

There is no escape. ;)

Enjoy the ride.

It truly is a great feeling to see your idea or 'dream knife' turned into reality! It is also a great learning experience gained from working with a fine craftsman. Sounds like the 'bug' has bitten you as bad as it bit me! Three customs at home and 3 more by Christmas. Good luck to you!:D

Thanks for welcoming me to the world of BFC custom collectors. ;)

Right back at ya! :)

As soon as I´m done with my training (in about 2 and a half years) and earn more money than today, I gotta consider a Hossom Retribution and a Blackwood Melee.

Welcome to the custom knife world Tim, you know what they say, "once you go custom you never go back"!

Cheers!
James

James is onto something there Tim. It is a sight to behold to see something you've had in your mind and down on paper get transformed into steel and wood, or bone, or synthetic. Now check into some custom folders, as that is the next step.

And WELCOME to the world of CUSTOM!:D  :)

I now only give the maker a basic outline of what I am looking for and leave the final design up to them. I have learned over the years that I am going to end up with a knife I like better than when I get to involved in the design of the knife myself.

It is great to have you amongst our ranks QS. There are some great knifemakers in Germany and I hope that you will be able to show us some of their work in the future.

Well Tim, congrats.....and a few words of advice if you are married with kids: Tell the wife to start living on less and tell the kids their shoes from last year fit juuuuuuuuust fine....'cause once you buy one, well, it just never ends:)

I couldn't agree more. I've done it four times, and three more planned. Congratz on your's.

Hey, if you ever need help designing a knife check out this old Shop Talk thread.

Nah, I´m not married. I´m only 20 years old and I wanna enjoy my freedom as long as possible. :D

Another point I finally came to fully understand when I held the knife in my hands for the first time, I noticed the often quoted "soul" the maker had put into this blade. Man, this is just so great!

My next one will be a recurve knife made of ATS-34 with carbon fiber scales, approximately 11 inches OAL, from the same maker.

It is great to build a relatinship with a maker whose work you admire. I think both parties wind up the better as a result of it. :)

Congratulations Quiet Storm. Looks like you have gotten off to a great start!
