When I was 4 years old. Being Born in ARK it was kind of the norm for a young boy to have a Knife. It was a Case Hawk Bill and I still have it. My Dad against my Mothers wishes thought I needed a Knife. Man I carved up everything from the fence poles to the kitchen table.

The love for Knives hasn't never left. fast forward to 2014 and internet etc. Its nice to have a place where Knife people can talk about Knives and such. I have been collecting mainly Case Knives for 35 years I guess but I must admit reading reviews and seeing pics of these fancy newer Knives like the ZTs and the Spydercos have really brought out a new wave in my Knife collecting/use.

I can place some of my Knives on a table and enjoy them like Christmas time with a shot of Tequila and my Knives,im good.

just thought I would share this.

I have always been a fan of the traditional knives. Take a look at Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC) which are generally a step up from your run of the mill Case. I held out buying a ZT for a couple years and after handling a couple of them at a large knife store, I decided when I could afford it, I would get my first ZT and see what all the fuss is about personally. I chose the ZT 0770CF which is above my normal price range for a pocket knife. It is about the same size as a Spyderco Delica which I really like for EDC duty. Have not been more pleased with my choice! Sebenza...still not there yet in the justification department....

I carried a knife all the time begining at about 7 or 8 years old (2nd grade) and moved up to a Case Barlow as my ultimate pocket knife when I was a bit older (maybe 10). Saved up for one and never looked back. Broke that knife cutting some wood out in the woods (I was heart broken) and Case replaced it for me for free which really confirmed that I was dealing with a very good knife company that stands behind their products.

There are a lot of really good knives available these days.

I totally agree. I do have some G.E.C. Knives and they are great. Case has always been a company for warranty etc. I have bought the Spyderco Manix xl and three ZTs,0200/0350TS/0350Blackwash,wow those are some great knives! but yea im a traditional guy I guess and I love the copperlocks and the copperheads. When I was a young boy it felt like I had a pocket full of gold when I had my knife in my pocket. I still feel that way.

oh yea, as for the Sebenza, I feel the same way as you. nice Knife but good Lord at the price.................

I do the same thing, stay home with a couple of drinks occasionally and just check out my knives. Keeps one from getting a DUI since they charge you with that around here if they can smell any alcohol on your breath at all. Can't risk having a couple at a local watering hole it seems anymore.

They went from "driving while intoxicated" (which I can understand, of course) to "driving under the influence" in Ohio which means they can arrest you at under the legal limit anytime they want to now. Our counties are really hurting for money since the state cut funding a couple of years back so they nail you any chance they get. Even under the legal limit.

So I'm like you, and I sure am glad to have my knife collection because I never tire of looking at them and it does seem like Christmas when I do that once in awhile! They become even cooler...

MercyfulfateXX: Thanks for the thread. I got my first knife in 1956, as a 10 yr old cub scout. It was, logically enough, the official cub scout knife; a smaller version of the boy scout knife but with locking blades. I never lost the love of knives and their mainly, for me, outdoor use. I now have around 250 knives of all kinds, from higonokami to custom fixed blades. It has been and is an extremely enjoyable hobby which I hope gets passed on to future generations. It inspires more activity than video games to say the least.

Well said Sir! My Boys whom are 17 (twins) love Knives as well. my Dad who passed away around 12 years ago had more of a hand in them liking them than I think I did. He brought back some Knives from Viet Nam that my boys have now. I have my Mothers few knives that she had in Viet Nam as well (Trauma Nurse) they are Red Cross Knives.

sadly, I lost my Cub Scout Knife. it was awesome with the spoon and fork etc. Damn, I wish I hadn't thought of that.

Looking back, I find it interesting that my Dad did not help me with my broken Case Barlow. I know I would now with a son. It just never came up as I recall. I found the address for Case and wrote them a letter and included my knife in a box or envelope (don't recall). The knife was broke, so even if Case didn't replace it, it was not useable with the broken blade. The story had a happy ending. But when I think about it now as an older person, I find it interesting that my Dad made me handle it all myself. That should be a lesson to the younger kids now..... life.... you have to learn for yourself and you take your lumps.

Mine was a barlow in the mid 60s from my granddad, I don't remember the brand but I sure whittled a lot of sling shots and other things.

I'm 30 and have liked knives all my life. Over the past few years I've started collecting Case pretty strong. If you get the time I'd love to see a few pics of a 35 yr old collection, I only hope to amass that many at some point.
