A couple of months ago, I posted in the Grail thread how I liked a certain member's knife, and hoped to be able to pick a similar one up someday. Well, that member noticed my post, and asked me if I would be interested in purchasing it. Of course I jumped at the chance, and soon after, I was in possession of a Menefee Zulu Trapper. The previous owner had mentioned he was going to have Mr. Menefee do a little work on it, but never got around to sending it in, but that if I decided to have it done, to just contact Rick. I mailed the knife off and waited. At one point, Rick contacted me and asked if there were any changes I would want done, to pretty much make the knife mine, and to update it to his current standards. I opted for the ivory micarta scales and bomb shield, as they struck me as a combo that worked well together. Well as of yesterday, my wait is over. The knife is absolutely beautiful, and feels great. The only problem now is that I'm already on the lookout for my next custom slippy.
Here are a few pics of my knife. Be aware that any scratches you see are the result of me having to sharpen out a few dings when I used the knife to cut a hose off what I thought was a plastic attachment last night. The edge Rick put on this knife was what I call stupid sharp, and I nearly cried when I realized what I had done. It's ok though, as it sharpens up rather nicely using my wet/dry sandpaper, and it's back to scaring the hair off my arm.
All in all, this has been a great experience, and I'm thankful for Rick's patience and hard work. I wouldn't hesitate placing an order with him whenever the funds may allow. I'm also thankful for my fellow forum member's generosity. You know who you are, and if you don't me posting your name, send me a message. People like you guys are why this is the best knife forum on the net.
