Actually, I am relatively un-depressed today, despite what the title might be saying behind my back, bad title, bad :) , which is an incredible, celebration worthy milestone for me. UNBIRTHDAY WISH GOTTEN! Yayz.
What the title meant to impart was not depressed silence, but the ponderous silence of a Gorog deep in thought. Because, I have some questions.

Firstly, I am enthralled by sumi e. I love the versatility, spontaneity, control, wisdom, raw energy, vitality, and much more, that it brings to my life, and I respect every part of the process, i value all it's disparate factors as much as the end result. However, my brushes have served me well and are on the wane.... I continue to use them, but I think it is worthwhile to invest in some new ones. I know how and where to get other supplies, and I know of, and have scanned through many different places that sell sumi e brushes.

So my question is, anyone know of places that sell such brushes, places I have missed in my searchings? I can list what places I do know of, like blue heron arts, paragon arts international, yasutomo, and the great calligraphy store, but I have a feeling I am missing something. It is not that I am impatient to get better things, in fact, I will likely start with entry level brushes...I just like to explore to the utmost before I spend my money.

Yes, I could ask a dedicated art forum...and I probably will, but I wanted to try you guys first. Any help at all would be vastly appreciated. Thanks, everyone, and peace.

I'm happy for you about not being depressed! Always good news.
I have no idea what sumi is, so I can't help you with your actual question.
Good luck though, and keep up the good vibes!

Thanks! Sumi e supposedly translates to ink picture in either Japanese or Chinese, you use cool brushes and ink to paint monochromatic pictures, although colored ink and watercolors are acceptable too. Sumi uses minimalism, expression, and much more to create wondrous works in a relatively speaking short amount of time. It's really awesome.
Peace.

you will think this is stupid probably but i am enjoying it,as you know my son is autistic and my wife bought a art easle i guess is what you call it,big fold up paint/art board,to try and help teach him to write, and let him doodle, well i used to draw pictures real well, dragons, molly hatchet art ,barbarians, monsters, etc. well now i use one side of the art board and draw gorillas, robots, things that interest my son, even the jeeper creeper movie villian is on the board right now,he gets so excited at my drawings, just to see the look in his eyes. good day to you.

I don't think that is stupid at all...art is expression, if you succeed in expressing SOMETHING to a viewer, than you have made artwork. I'm not angry, or anything, and I am joyful that your son revels in your artwork, but art is never stupid, trust me on that. It connects us, unites us, it destroys harmful illusions and bolsters helpful realities, it does so much with so little...there are SO many misconceptions, or plain old falsehoods, shrouding art that I am often discouraged, but I always find a way back to it. Find your way.
Peace.

you know Gorog, you have a good way about you,is best as i can explain it,i realy enjoy drawing and i am 42 years old,but your words realy make me take a look at the world a little different, i evan carved a pumpkin for evan ,first time ever,he is flippen out over it,i call it ,zoneing out, when he gets excited he flaps his hands and talks in his own little language, the hand flapping has got real bad, does it uncontrollably sometimes, but its a part of our life. didnt mean to yap on your thread.i dont have to many people to talk to.all my friends moved off.

Don't worry about it. We as a people get to greater heights by sharing what we deem ours with those who do not have such. I'll be able to talk tomorrow more, got someone coming over, sorry. Peace.
